Now it was summertime. The sun hung high up in the clear blue sky that shined ever so brightly, casting its reflection onto the grass and tree leaves that danced a little bit in the cool breeze. Little animals like bunnies hop around in the grass, and big animals like deer roam around in the woods, eating anything edible they could find like berries from bushes. The flowers are beautiful with their colorful petals, and the trees are tall and wear a thick coat of leaves hanging from their branches. Flying high up in the sky are birds. It has been two years now since Lucy had left for college. Like she promised Charlie, Lucy does come over to visit her family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Other than that, though she doesn't come over that much. When she left for college for the first time, the boy felt like an animal that had just been separated, however, as the days and weeks went by, Charlie's sadness slowly started to melt away. In the mornings, when he woke up, he would get dressed, brush his teeth, and then would go downstairs to eat breakfast. After pouring some trail mix into a bowl and eating it all up, Charlie patiently waited for his parents to wake up and asked them if he could go outside to draw. If they said yes he would go back upstairs to open up his desk cabinet to grab his drawing journal (which was stored there stacked on top of other journals), he would also grab a pencil from out of his long desk drawer. Leaving his room with his journal and pencil, Charlie would then head back downstairs and would head outside.
Whenever Charlie was outside with his journal, he liked to draw pictures of animals. The boy's dream was to one day become a really good artist and wanted to sell his paintings to people all over the world. At his school, Charlie was one of the best artists in his grade. In art class, Charlie's teacher, Mrs. Green taught him some cool drawing techniques that he still uses today. Mrs. Green was a tall 35-year-old woman with long, curly brown hair and blue eyes.
One day in art class Mrs. Green told her class to each draw a picture of their choice. Since he liked the self-portraits, they learned how to draw a few months back, Charlie chose to draw one of himself. As she walked around looking at all her students' beautiful artwork Mrs. Green stopped suddenly at Charlie's table and looked at the boy's painting in amazement.
She was completely bewildered," surely," she thought. This had to be the work of some professional artist that must be secretly drawing it. When she scanned the room though she saw no sign of anyone helping him. There was no way this painting could have been her own student Charlie's work, she thought to herself. While she stood there next to the boy, Charlie pretended his teacher wasn't watching him and just focused on completing his masterpiece before the end of the class. She then softly tapped Charlie on the shoulder and asked if she could have his work.
Charlie then gave her his portrait. Then she walked up to the front of the class and had everyone direct their attention to his picture. Now She could have taken any of her students' pictures to show to the class because all of her students were great artists but there was just something about Charlie's painting that when she looked at it for the first time caught her eye and thought it should be seen by his whole class as an example.
Once she was done showing the class his picture Charlie thought she was going to give it back to him so he could finish it but instead she walked out of the classroom for some reason holding the portrait in her hand. "What is she going to do?'' he wondered as she left the room. Five minutes had passed, and his art teacher was still not there. Looking around, he could see some of his classmates who looked like they were trying so hard to do their work, but Charlie knew that all most of them wanted to do was mess around since the teacher was gone. Just as they were about to get out of their seats and start acting like a bunch of wild monkeys, Mrs. Green finally came, and not just her, she had also brought the principal along with her.
" I wonder what the principals are doing here," Charlie wondered as he looked up from his work and saw him and Mrs. Green talking. Maybe he was just there to check on the class and Mrs. Green's teaching skills, "Charlie thought. Everything at that moment seemed fine for the boy until he looked at Mrs. Green and then at the familiar piece of paper she was holding. Seeing this suddenly made Charlie's heart race while the rest of his body froze in fear like a deer who had just gotten surprised and attacked by a bear. "Oh no," he thought", had he done something wrong. "Whatever it was, he was sorry," he said to himself. His heart quickly sank like a boat suddenly dropping down underwater. Then the boy's hands and face began to swell up like crazy and looked like ripe red apples. Usually, at Charlie's school, when the principal had to visit your classroom, it meant that you had done something bad and he had to talk to that student or students. After that, depending on the situation, the principal would usually give the students lunch detention, after school, or an ISS, Charlie, of course, hoped that he got none of them. As he worried and wondered what was going to happen, the boy thought about how he had never gotten in trouble, and now he just hoped today wouldn't end his streak.
However, as he replied about his day leading up to this, he couldn't recall anything bad that he had done. Knowing this made his face and hands slowly turn back to their original color. If the boy hadn't done anything wrong, then why was the principal here looking at Charlie's painting he wondered. It was times like these when he wished he had Iccurese's wings or Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, so he could just fly away or disappear right then and there. Ignoring this, Charlie looked over by the teacher's desk with a worried look painted on his face, as he saw the two of them still talking while Mrs. Green still held up his portrait for the principal to examine. A few seconds later Charlie's body started to act up again as the engine of a broken vehicle that just got fixed, this was all because now his teacher and principal were coming his way Oh, no he thought what was he going to do. One idea he had was to purchase plane tickets to Florida so he could go there and hide, but then he realized that his plan would never work. Luckily, two tables in front of him were his friend Adam Quick. Now before you meet him, there is something you must know about this kid, in school Adam is very, very talkative. He could carry on a lot of conversations before you eleven got the chance to talk. Anyways, what Charlie hoped would happen was Adam would bug Mrs. Green with a lot of questions, so she and the principal wouldn't get tired and wouldn't end up talking to him. Unfortunately, though, Charlie's plan did not work because instead of talking, Adam was quiet and working on his masterpiece. " Wow, that's a first '', Charlie thought. When the principal and Mrs. Green reached the boy's table, Charlie was seen drawing a picture with a pencil on a white piece of paper( really just waiting until his teacher and principal left his table). As she stood quietly behind him, Charlie could hear Mrs. Green whispering to the principal telling him that Charlie had drawn the portrait she had shown him. At first, the principal did not believe her, but then the art teacher handed him the picture again to examine it. Looking at it closely now, the principal started to somewhat believe that Charlie had made the painting, and he, just like his art teacher, was also surprised he was able to draw that good of a self-portrait.
Glancing over his shoulder, Charlie caught a first glimpse of the still confused and surprised look on the principal's face that looked like it was a painting that an artist had drawn on a canvas. It's a really big one. His hair stood up as if he had just been electrocuted, and his eyes and mouth widened. Bending down a little bit, the principal then said Charlie's name. Charli, scared, turned to look at the principal. Seeing he had the boy's attention, the man then quietly told Charlie to follow him to his office. As he talked to him, Charlie took a glance over at the principal's left hand and saw he was still holding the picture. Right after he was done talking to him, Charlie then followed the principal as they walked out of the art room and towards his office. As they walked down the noisy hall, Charlie could see people walking to their class and others who were puking their books and folders in their lockers. Some of the students they passed were some of his friends. Getting to see and hang out with his friends was something Charlie loved, he just wish he had one to talk to right now as he nervously made his way to the principal's officer arriving at their designation, the principal nicely open the door for Charlie and the once the boy went in, he followed Inside his office, the principal talked to Charlie about his drawing and about how he would like that along with some more of his great artwork to be hung around the school. Hearing this, Charlie was very confused.
"Okay,' the boy said, confused. Then, the principal gave him his paperback and told him once he was done with it to bring it to him. From that day on all of Charlie's greatest drawings along with other art students' great masterpieces were placed on walls all over the school for all the grades to see as they made their way to their classes. With his newly found talent, the boy made a lot of new friends who shared his same interests. Anyway, back to our story, today after eating a bowl of trail mix, Charlie went upstairs and grabbed his journal and pencil from up in his room. Then he walked outside. Like he always did, outside Charlie sat under the shade of the big maple tree in his backyard laying his journal and pencil beside him. Just in case an animal came into his view at any time, Charlie picked up his book, opened it, and flipped through the pages, looking at some of his previous animal drawings.
He was flipping through the pages of his journal that were filled with his beautiful artwork when his eyes caught a glimpse of a drawing of a deer he had drawn. Stopping at this page, Charlie looked at his beautiful deer drawing and started thinking back to two weeks ago when he had drawn this beautiful creature. It was a dark and stormy Saturday morning. The dark gray clouds hid the sun from view, and strong winds blew through the trees and grass, making them sway in any direction. At this time, Charlie quietly lay in his bed listening to the rain as it loudly tapped on his window and onto the wet grass. Sitting up and facing his right side window, the boys watched the droplets as they ran down his window. Watching this entertainment for a little longer, the boy soon got bored and was about to lay back in bed and try to sleep when he heard the sound of some kind of animal footsteps. Listening to the noise, he could tell it was coming from outside the window.
" Was it an animal?" he thought as he laid back in his bed. No, it couldn't be thought of again? Usually, when it was raining, the animals were hidden far away in his woods. Whatever it was, Charlie quickly and quietly got out of his bed, grabbed his journal and pencil from his desk, and then walked to his window and looked out. Scanning his front yard, Charlie suddenly froze in shock as he had just spotted a rare species. There, standing still in the boy's backyard on four legs and facing toward his window, Charlie saw a beautiful deer. Hopping the animal would stay perfectly still for a few minutes. The boy quickly opened up his book to the next blank page and started drawing the deer. Once he was done, Charlie watched the deer some more until it frolicked away. After that, he got back in bed and rested some more. When he was done looking at his deer drawing, Charlie continued flipping through the pages until he got to the next blank page. Now he just had to wait, and usually, anytime he was out here waiting for an animal to come, it took a long time. Today, as he sat under the big maple tree waiting for an animal to come into his view, Charlie could feel the cool breeze brush against him. Hopping along in the grass, Charlie saw a bunny coming from his right side out of the woods. Now, unlike most bunnies, he saw in his backyard that this one had white fur and brown spots. " Interesting," Charlie thought.
Seeing this creature really encouraged the boy to draw it, but now he just had to wait for the right moment. Luckily, the bunny stopped a few seconds later to nibble on some grass, and Charlie knew that this was the best time to draw his picture of it. As he drew, Charlie listened to the sweet sound of birds chirping. First, he outlined the creature, and then he moved on to adding more interior details. Every once in a while, as he did this, Charlie would look up from his journal to make sure the bunny was still there and to see if he had all the details right. He was hard at work drawing the bunny's bpdywhen suddenly the wind picked up and grabbed his paper and took it for a little joy ride. Chassing after it Charlie repeatedly reached his hands up too grab it until he was finally able to jump up and grab it.Just as he was about to turn around to grabHe was walking when Charlie spotted something pinkish in the distance.Walking closser he started to see that it was a rose quarts stone, her sisters favorite.Curious Charlie touched it and then magically he disappeared inside.Charlie didn't know it yet, but beyond that inside that stone was an epic adventure just waiting to begin.
