Gon and Killua walked into school, hand in hand. They talked nineteen to the dozen as they got their books from their lockers and headed to their first class. "Hey, thanks for inviting me over," said Killua with a warm smile. He looked into Gon's amber eyes. They were brighter than the sun, the moon, the stars. His heart began to thump in his chest when Gon returned his smile. "Well, why wouldn't I? You're my best friend, after all!" Gon laughed, the sound playing in Killua's ears like a melody. He loved the way Gon made him feel. Suddenly, he felt his cheeks grow hot. He looked down, trying to hide his embarrassment.
They walked into class and sat next to each other. As the teacher began teaching, a group of boys could be heard giggling. "Killua is such a sissy! Did you see the way he held Gon's hand while walking into class today? Such a jerk!" They glared at the white-haired boy and grinned menacingly. Killua growled. Why do they always have to pick on me? I swear, one of these days...
"Killua!" the teacher snapped. Killua jolted upright, snapping out of his daydream of stabbing the boys in the chest. "Repeat everything I just said or it's detention for you." Killua froze. He wasn't paying attention. But, he was smart, so he quickly glanced at the board, where the teacher had pictures of different maps. Killua then goes on to name each one and explain what its use was and where it can be used. The kids gaped in awe. "Killua is so cool!" said a little girl with a big nose and freckles. "Yeah! And he wasn't even concentratin' when Miss Saki was talking!" said another boy in shock and admiration. The statement from him made Killua roll his eyes. But he was the class hero. Well, not in the sense that he saved anyone or did any good. He was just cool. And heroes were cool. So, in his mind, he was a hero.
Gon's eyes sparkled while looking at his friend. Killua is so cool! I'm so lucky he's my best friend!!! he thought to himself.
The teacher was fuming. She meant to embarrass Killua. He wasn't supposed to know the answer. She was supposed to get him into trouble and have him be the laughingstock of the class. Now everyone thinks he's cool?! She was having none of it.
"I know you're cheating, Killua!" she growled as her cheeks grew a bright crimson with shame. "You just looked behind me!"
Dang it!
"Actually, no. I read this yesterday so that I wouldn't be lost in class today. Guess it paid off." He shrugged his shoulders. "Do what you will with that statement, Miss Saki. Whether you believe me or not is your decision and definitely not my problem."
The whole class gasped. "KILLUA IS SO BRAVE!" the kids roared, making Miss Saki even angrier. Killua smirked at her with catlike eyes as he stuck out his tongue at her. She banged her fists on the desk while the class laughed at her.
At the end of class, Killua was about to exit the room with Gon, when Miss Saki pulled him by the ear and whispered in his ear, "Your mother will hear about your behaviour today, Mr Zoldyk." With that, she stormed back to her desk in a huff. "No... please don't tell my mom..." The words escaped Killua's mouth in a soft whisper, barely audible. The thought of his mother finding out about his shenanigans at school scared him to his core. He was usually a fearless boy who didn't care when he got a rattling from a teacher, but if his mother had to scold him, well, he'd get more than just a few harsh words...

Kurapika walked into the pub down the road from his house. It was a rowdy place that reeked of middle-aged men, cigarettes, and beer. "Why did he ask to meet here, of all places?" grumbled Kurapika as he sat down at the bar and ordered himself some draft beer. "It's so loud in here, and everyone acts uncivilized." It irritated the blonde to no end.
The doorbell rang, and a tall man with dark hair walked into the pub, greeting Kurapika with a cheery grin. "Hey, Kurapika. Sorry I'm late. I got held up at the hospital."
"Pay it no mind, Leorio."
Leorio sat down and ordered a cocktail. He was so happy to see his best friend after so long. Life had become so busy, with Leorio finishing his studies and qualifying as a doctor and Kurapika with his family and his job. They rarely got time to hang out, text, or even call. Leorio was so happy Kurapika could make it this time around.
"So, how have you been? How's my little Gon?"
"Your little Gon is growing up fast." Kurapika giggled as memories of Gon's antics played in his mind. The memories also saddened him as he realised that Gon wasn't a baby anymore. He was going to be a teenager soon. He wouldn't need his dad anymore. Kurapika worried that Gon would stop loving him the way he did now. It broke his heart every time the thought crossed his mind.
Leorio noticed the change in his friend's emotion. He placed a large hand on his shoulder and gently squeezed it. "He may be growing up, but -" he pointed in the direction of Kurapika's heart,"- he'll always have a special place in here. He'll always be your baby."
Your baby... The words played in Kurapika's head. My baby. Gon is my baby. My angel. My everything.
Changing the subject, the blonde asked Leorio about work and the hospital. "Oh, it's been great," he chuckled. A wide grin appeared on his face. "I've helped out so many people! Seeing them leave the hospital happy and healthy really makes my job worthwhile." Kurapika was happy to hear that Leorio was enjoying his job. He could see how passionate he was about it by the way his eyes twinkled when he spoke and how the pitch in his voice increased ever so slightly.
"And how about you, Pika? How's your job?"
Kurapika tensed up a bit. "Oh, um, it's fine. Nothing new." He fidgeted with his fingers and looked down at his lap. Kurapika never liked to talk about his job very much. "Oh, okay," said Leorio, surprised by the sudden change in attitude again. The doctor was confused. Is he hiding something?
Leorio just kept quiet and sipped on his cocktail.
