"So, I heard that it's your birthday"- Norm tried to start the conversation, but Spider looked at him in confusion
"What's going on?"- Norm avoided looking at the boy's eyes which made Spider more suspicious of his acts
"Just don't go anywhere at night alright? I need you to be with me and Max in the lab, please. Alone"- Norm begged, Spider nodded his head in confusion
"Just stop acting this weird man"-he got up -"I need to see Kiri"- and left
Norm sighed, he didn't know if this idea of theirs was even good, it's not like he could take things back now, they spent so many years on this project
the man remembered a small conversation between he and his team had with Jake a few years prior
"You have equipment for it left?" - Jake asked the scientists in amazement, they nodded their heads
"It won't be perfect like yours"- one started- "we have pretty limited resources. growing this body up will be hard... but everything for him I guess"- said the scientist then glared at Jake
"Don't you dare to tell him about this project"
"I won't"
"Good"
"It will be a good experiment for us too"- Norm added- "We will check his heartbeat, and health and write down everything that might be important for the future"
"This boy only has one wish"- Max explained - "To become one of you guys, to become Na'Vi"
Norm looked at the Avatar's body and sighed - "We have to get ready buddy"- he muttered to the body.
Getting the body out of the tube wasn't the hard task but getting it ready was
"Am I supposed to give it two braids or one"- Norm asked Jake, who was putting Na'vi clothes and jewellery on the shelf
"What do you mean two?"- Jake asked in disbelief - "Have you ever seen anyone wear two braids?"
"fair point"
"Let him choose the hairstyle"
"yea"- They stayed silent - "it feels weird you know"
"What do you mean?"
"It feels weird to see him getting an avatar, the boy who is like my own kid... It will sound dumb but I can't help but see Trudy in him despite them being non-related"- Norm chuckled in distress.
Jake patted his friend's shoulder for comfort, he knew how deep Norms and Trudy's relationship went and saw how they loved each other even if they tried to deny it back then- "I miss her"
Jake and Trudy hadn't been that close, their relationship didn't have much time to progress with both of them being so busy with their respective jobs at that time but the chief understood his friend's pain
After all, he couldn't imagine a life without Neytiri
"I know"- Jake gave him a sad smile- "It is a big day today, wouldn't it be better if we talked about Spider? And how excited he will be on his birthday? I think you should tell Max to get his camera ready"
"True"- Norm agreed and grinned, he couldn't wait to see Spider's reaction- "Did you tell Neytiri?"- Jake nodded his head
"Well... Her feelings for the child are complicated but she did smile when I told her about Spider getting an Avatar body"
"Finally, it happened"- Neytiri said, shocking her mate- "You people managed to do something with the boy's wishes"
"Well don't count me in" - Jake shrugged- I had 0 involvement with the project, it's the boys that did their job right"
