Nothing felt more right than what you did to save them.

The sound of ringing filled your ears, and a sharp pain in your abdomen left you in a daze. Crimson blood and you heard him yelling and crying in German. It sounded heavily muffled, along with muffled barking.

You drove through the peaceful suburbs of Kentucky, jamming out to your favorite playlist with your Goldie riding shotgun.

"Hey, Jack, would you like some treats when we get home?"

He barked and licked you, to which you could only chuckle. You ruffled the dog's luscious golden coat and scratch behind his ears. After a few songs, you stopped in front of your house, and you grabbed Jack's leash to lead him out of your jeep. As he hopped out, you dropped his leash, knowing he was well-trained to walk without his leash.

He followed you to the front door, which you were about to unlock your door. His hair stuck up on his back, and he started snarling. The door was slightly ajar, you muttered curses and then opened your door with Jack behind you. You swept around each room, and then you saw him sitting on your couch. One of your old comrades, Graves.

"Gosh, I mean make yourself a home, I guess. JACK HEEL."

Jack heeled by your side but wasn't relaxing.

"Heh, you know Y/n I never liked dogs, but if you need a therapy dog, you do, but we have to go."

He did air quotes when he said therapy, which annoyed you. Being in a warzone wasn't an easy thing to walk away from. You saw and did things that no soldier can walk away from without being traumatized. But Jack was no therapy dog, though he is your dog and best friend. You adopted him right after coming back home after retiring from being a soldier.

He was your whole meaning to life.

"Y/n, we have a problem, and we need you back. You were one of our best soldiers."

"Pfft, and why should I? I don't owe you anything."

"Funny you say that,"

Something about how he said that made you nervous.

"Get to the point now, Graves,"

He pulled a gun and pointed at you. You chuckled,

"Threatening me, please like I even care."

He scowled, but then he pointed the gun at something else, and then you realized where he was pointing.

"GRAVES, GET OUT."

"Either you join by choice, or the dog will get killed,"

You looked at Jack and back at Grave. You sighed,

"Fine. Just don't kill him,"

"Good choice, Y/n."

All of y'all went outside and walked a block. Graves led you into a van where he threw you in and was about to yank the dog in, but Jack quickly hopped in going to your side. He licked your cheeks to which you petted him gently before whispering into his side,
