Hailee was pissed. Pissed wasn't even a strong enough word to describe how she felt after enduring months of watching you get close to her brother Griffin, far too close for Hailee's liking. You and Hailee have been best friends for a few years now, 4 years to be exact, and everything was going great until a year ago when y/n confessed her crush on Hailee.
Hailee didn't know if she reciprocated these feelings for y/n, sure she loved the girl but surely not like that... right?
Sure she cuddled the girl for endless amounts of nights. Held, touched, and kissed her unlike anyone else in the girl's life, and spent every holiday and major event together, even frequently fighting off potential love interests for y/n sometimes. But that's what best friends do right?
Not wanting to lose y/n, Hailee lied and confessed her uncertain feelings back but wanted to take some time to sort herself out before they really get into something serious.
Y/n was over the moon about this, she finally got the girl after all these years and was more than willing to wait for her best friend. However, that blissful state was quickly killed off weeks after the confession.
After their agreement of taking things slow, Hailee started to become more distant than ever.
Constantly going on dates with different guys, or talking about her guy problems with y/n. Standing y/n up on multiple occasions while she went out with friends. When going to parties together, she would quickly ditch the girl and go off to party with her other friends, completely ignoring y/n for the rest of the night. Those small weekly traditions they had together were no more as Hailee stopped showing up to them.
Yet Hailee kept stringing y/n along, telling her she did feel something for the girl but was overwhelmed and confused by everything. Always coming back for the occasional cuddling sessions that would lead them into endless hours of laughing and talking, which was such a heart-swelling moment for the two of them. But was quickly crushed as Hailee would go back to her ways the very next day, setting y/n to the side as she continues on with her life.
Y/n was no idiot, she knew what Hailee was doing but she couldn't lose hope in her best friend. She knew Hailee for far too long to lose any faith in her best friend's words. So she waited, waited for any chance Hailee would give her to prove she could be the one for her.
Y/n loved being the one Hailee could always rely on, rather it be help with songwriting or getting her home after a night out, y/n didn't care, she just loved being the shoulder Hailee could lean on when she was down.
She was hurt though, watching as Hailee leaves for another date while sitting on her couch, waiting for what was supposed to be their evening to hang out.
It wasn't all bad though, as y/n had started to spend more time with Hailee's brother Griffin.
They were actually becoming a lot closer than Hailee and y/n ever were.
Spend late nights together in Griffin's garage, trying to teach y/n anything regarding cars, laughing as one of them ends up with oil on their cheek.
They started to party together too, enjoying an occasional outing or staying in to cook dinner together while enjoying a few drinks, laughing, and chatting the night away.
There were a few nights Hailee would catch them, catch them in situations that would turn her stomach upside down.
Like the nights she walked into loud oldies playing through her parent's kitchen, finding them watching y/n and griffin drunkenly dance together to 'la vie en rose' which was, according to Hailee's dad 'the most romantic song to ever dance to.' Watching the two laugh their asses off like it was the funniest thing they've ever done.
