AN: Please to the songs during their respective parts, it really adds to the whole thang. 'Need your love so bad' by little willie john also!! No idea how to put them both... can you even do that?
_____
Love songs were a waste. Dedicating love songs to someone was an even bigger waste, at least, that's what a young Kate Bishop thought.Dedication was meant to be spent bettering yourself and your craft. Dedication wasn't meant to be wasted on sharing a love song with somebody, something both her parents did continuously which always confused Kate, who never understood the appeal of love songs.
They were just words, words that expressed how someone felt about another person. Anyone could do that... even Kate could! Give her a pen and some paper and she could make albums worth of lyrics referring to her admiration for a certain avenger. Even with all that, it still wouldn't be anything near the songs her parents raved about.
Specifically, Kate's dad. He was a big love song junkie, the man had countless lists of songs that he believed described his loved ones so vividly. His biggest one yet was dedicated to his remarkable wife, Elenor Bishop.
Obviously, he had one for Kate, but it was nothing like the songs he had dedicated to his lover, better known as ' his walking love song.'
The chosen nickname sent Kate Gagging, however seeing them dance to these love songs made the girl really want to throw up her week's worth of food.
Her parents loved to dance, whether it be at a big charity event filled with new york's elite, or in the middle of their penthouse with just kate there to watch, regardless the couple would jump at any chance to dance to their songs.
They didn't care how ridiculous they looked, they didn't care if their love-sicken faces sent the audience laughing, or if they strumbled on each other feet resulting in a nasty bruise, or if they even sang the lyrics wrong. It was just the three of them at that moment. Him, her, and the song.
Once they started it was hard to pull them out of their little hex. They were far too busy placing delicate kisses on each other's lips or singing those distinctive lyrics to notice anything around them.
Kate always made it a habit to watch them from afar, smiling as they whisper little things that sent the other one into a small laughing fit. It was a far better picture than their usual fighting postures.
The couple fought just as much as they danced, but all those mean words and actions were quickly forgotten once their song was on.
'I need your love so bad'
That was the name of their song.
Kate was sure her parents loved the song just as much as they loved her, observing them say those 6 words to each other, more times than they'd ever said her name. Specifically watching the tone they say it in as if it pained them to say it.
Why would a love song pain them? Shouldn't love to make you happy?
Kate's curious mind would always hustle her parents out of an answer, but every time she was given the same frustrating responses.
*Flashback*
"Sometimes... love is so painfully beautiful, that the feelings are too strong for our small hearts to bear. When I play your mom a song, I'm not playing it because I want to dance. I want her to feel the love I feel when I look at her, and what better way is there to express that than with a love song? "
"Did you ever dedicate other love songs to other girls?" Kate asks her dad, watching him graze his fingers across his massive record collection in search of something.
