"Hey baby, I'm home!" Kate announces, expecting her loving girlfriend to be there and greet her. However, the archer was welcomed with absolute silence, pouting as she sets her bag and bow down before heading to the kitchen.

"oooh, brownies!"

Kate spots the heavenly treats, Y/n's specialty, picking one up and eating it, blissfully enjoying the warmness still radiating from it.

Kate grabs another one after shortly finishing hers, brownie still in hand she heads to the fridge to pair her treat with a glass of milk. After pouring herself a small cup she settles down on the counter's stool and began to happily enjoy the sweet treat her thoughtful girlfriend left her.

Her eyes wander over to a folded piece of paper by the brownies, Kate's name was written right on top with a couple of hearts drawn on. Kate smiles to herself wondering what adorable words her girlfriend had left on the paper for her.

As Kate's eyes glide across the letter, those little loving butterflies Y/n always causes, quickly convert into little twists of terror in the girl's stomach.

"Welcome home, baby! Sorry for not being there when you arrived but I'm giving Yelena a ride upstate real quick! I'm picking up some champagne for tonight before I get home, but don't worry ill be back by 5 so we'll have time to get ready... and maybe time for a small detour;)

I hope you didn't forget about the dinner plans at your mom's tonight, she's been talking about it all week!

I Love you, see you soon! -y/n

P.S.: DON'T EAT THE BROWNIES!! Your mom has been asking for them for weeks, so I made HER some for tonight! So keep your hands to yourself until I get back, and don't let me find a half-empty pan when I get home!"

Kate automatically spits out the brownie when she reads the last part, darting over to the pan to realize she's eaten nearly 2 rows. Can you blame her? Y/n's brownies were literally a bite of heaven, and she only made them for special occasions!

"Shit shit shit, what do I do.." Kate was seriously stressed, Y/n was going to be back soon and see the half-empty pan, the same pan she had told Kate NOT to touch.

Kate ran her hands through her hair in stress, contemplating on going to their favorite bakery down the street and replacing the brownies praying that her girlfriend wouldn't notice, but Y/n would know they weren't hers at the mere sight of them. She actually used her brain, unlike Kate.

Kate doesn't know any baking-loving friends/neighbors either, since her social group ranges from broke college kids to vodka-loving/hearing aid-needing avengers, both she knows for a fact can't cook for shit. Kate let out a shiver at the thought of Yelena's box of mac n' cheese, the same one Yelena insists on sharing every Tuesday.

There was only one choice left for Kate. It was a hopeless last resort, but it was better than facing the disappointed face of her lover.

Kate was going to bake a fresh batch of brownies. By herself.

The same girl who basically lived off of fast food and processed sweets before Y/n entered her life, who always insist on having a home-cooked meal ready for the archer when she got home. The same spoiled brat who had professional chefs at her house every day growing up, feeding her the best meals money can buy since her mom was also an awful cook in the kitchen.

Despite all the odds going against her, Kate was going to make the best god damn brownies for Y/n.

Kate rolled up her sleeves before washing her hands, glancing over at Lucky who looked confused about why Kate would be in the kitchen... It really was an unusual sight, even for the one-eyed dog.
