Julie
The place was crowded by busy policemen walking back and forth in the room. Some had just captured criminals and thieves, hands handcuffed, and some where interviewed in the offices. A few of those criminals even glared at me,like I was the cause of their inconvenience. Basically, the room smelled nothing but trouble. Danger,to be precise.
Toni, the driver, already headed to his son and arranged his papers so they could already go home. We learned that his son,Davis, was still 12 years old and stole a wallet out of temptation but for a good intention. It contained a 500 peso bill, two 20 peso bills, and a 10 peso coin, for a total of 530 pesos. That's why Toni didn't need a very large amount more than that. His son just wanted to help his father because they were already going down. Toni was only a taxicab driver and his wife had passed away due to leukemia.
I feel sorry for them. My mom's memories suddenly comes back by the thought of Davis not having a mom, too. It must be hard for him having this kind of situation at such a young age. Motherless and moneyless. That's why we should really be thankful for what we have that other people don't. I should be thankful that I have a father like my dad.
Nick already looked exasperated of the stress we got into, adding to the stress he already has. I learned he had extreme body pain due to Coach Driscoll's toughness. The thought makes ma twitch my lips upward in amusemeng. I'm glad he's adjusting in my environment.
"Can you remind me why we're doing this? Why we're still here?" Nick asks sternly and getting disgusted of his squishy self.
I puff out a breathe. "We're trying to help this man here, okay? He spared my gown and," She pauses and turns to Toni having a sentimental moment with his son. "look at them." She says.
"And he's gonna take us to Caitlin.""Don't be such a good samaritan." He says strictly.
I roll my eyes and just ignore him. This trouble is enough. I'm not gonna add a childish argument to it anymore.
Nick suddenly breathes. "If you really wanna help that guy,you won't wait for something in return."
"But I'm not."
"So driving us to Caitlin's place isn't a price?"
I sigh. "Ofcourse,it's not. But he'd think that we really don't care about him if we do that." I remarked. "But we are."
"Tell him the polite reason then." He sighs irritably.
After a few minutes of waiting for them,we sight them walking towards us with huge grins on their faces. I stood up and beamed at them. "How are you doing,Davis?"
"I'm fine, thanks to you." Davis answers sheepishly. He looked much like Archie in Archie Comics, having that orangey hair and freckled face, which made me smile in amusement. "If it were'nt for the both of you,I couldn't have gone out."
Toni,on the other hand, thanked us for waiting and helping him save his son from the world of prison. I helped him in some of the papers and Nick's payment was more than enough. A taxicabs fare cost a hundred pesos but Toni realized it wasn't enough to pay the 530 pesos. Because of too much worry for his son,he forgot he only had 300 pesos plus our fare,100 pesos, which only makes 400 pesos and lacks 130. So Nick had to give him more then the fare.
"We'll go ahead." Nick says strictly and grabs my arm,but I managed to pull him back and scolded him.
"Uhm,that was nothing. Glad we could help." I grin at them. "Actually,it was his money."
"Thanks..." He looks at me with a questioning look.
Then it sunk in to me that he was asking for his name. "Nick! Nick's the name and Julie is me."
"Thanks Nick." Davis says facing Nick.
I turn to him but he did not give any reply to him, instead, have him an aloof look. I elbow him and muttered,"Atleast smile?". Turning back to them,I fake a smile at them, pushing him to do it too.
Nick forces out a smile which made him look like a gay but automatically took it back. "We'll just take another cab so that your son could already rest. Same with you."
Toni curves his lips into a beam. "Oh,aren't you a great guy?!" He exclaims and Davis nods with a beam. Turning to me,he says,"How lucky you are to find a man like this?!".
My lips forces a smile as I say,"Yeah, yeah. I am.". I fake a chuckle facing Nick.
"We'll head now." Nick says.
"But what about your money?" Toni says worriedly.
"No need." Nick says strictly. "Can we now go?"
"Sure, sure! May you continue to be a great great couple!" Tonie says, praising us as we head down the stairs.
When I hear that word,I still forget that we were faking a relationship. Even infront of strangers and other unknown people, just to keep the image.
"Hey." I call out Nick. "That was really great what you did there." I grin at him blissfully.
He looks at me in exasperation. "Cut the praising."
I chuckle in amusement. I always knew something good was in this guy. He doesn't know how to smile, yes. But the way he showed up under the rain earlier,it felt like,I really don't wanna say knight in shining armor, but I want to. Because he really was. And then offered the man his money to complete his payment,he totally looked like a good samaritan.
I deeply sigh. This guy seriously makes me smile without any warning.
