Stars can't shine without Darkness

"It just had to be in Antarctica, huh? Why couldn't-"

"Just shut up and defeat it!" I rubbed my temples.

I heard him mumble something but I didn't catch it. He dragged his feet to our first conflict. You see, in a normal situation with normal people, they would've been dead by now but... we're not humans. We came into a... I don't even know what to call it. Bear-octupus? The thing is, it had a body of a bear but with three heads and some tentacles as arms. Weird? Nah, you should be used to it.

"Are you okay there?" I grabbed one of the snowballs I made an threw it to him.

"I'm in- ah! Why did you throw me a snowball when I'm fighting for my life here?!" He was furious.

His been at it for 20 minutes now, "Here I'll help you" I walked up to the ... thing.

"Take 5" I glanced at him. His jacket was torn and some blood streaked his cheek.

"Hey, octobear! Look at me" I tried grabbing its attention.

I heard Niel scoff while pacing his breath back to normality.

I focused on the octobear, look at me.

The octobear was about to lounge at me but he came to a sudden halt.

"Good boy!" I smiled, sit.

The octobear sat and made a little earthquake. I went up to him and scratched his neck.

"Such a good boy!" I played with him.

"WHAT?!" Niel looked flabbergasted.

"Mind control" I shrugged.

But then I stabbed the octobear with a sharp icicle I found. Blood poured into my hand and into the white snow.

"Ah- Wh- oh my god!" Niel fell to his knees.

I cleaned my hand with a cloth I had in my backpack, "What?"

"Oh. My. God" he gasped and looked at the bear moaning until I stabbed the final blow.

"OH. MY GOD. I'M WITH A SERIAL KILLER" his eyes were widened in horror.

"What?" I asked irritated.

"Why did you killed it?!" He shook my shoulders harshly.

"Isn't that what you wanted to do? Besides, if I didn't kill it here and now, imagine how many it'll kill in the future"

I heard some faint cries coming from a distance. I stepped closer.

"Oh my gosh! You killed..." Niel gasped.

We were staring at some octocubs. Apparently that it was a she... or worse... a mother.

I killed a mom...
My legs felt weak and I almost fell on my knees. Memories about my mom came into mind.

"Krystal?" Niel linked his arm with mine.

"N-n-n-n" but I couldn't speak. Something affected me. I thought I lost my moral compass when I killed those ninjas but knowing that those cubs will die without their mother, is horrible. My mother was taken away too, and I barely survived.
