I gently knocked on the door while nervously tapping my foot on the floor. " Hello," I was received by a shy Anna who tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. " May I come in?"
"Of course," I walked past her and found Eli on the floor playing with Legos. " Buddy, could I speak with Anna for a while?" "Go ahead," he said without taking his eyes off his blocks. "Buddy, alone." He grunted and dramatically dragged himself out the door. Anna sped past me and slowly started picking up the Legos, careful not to strain her heavily pregnant body. "So, what can I do for you your..." I cut her off by helping her on the armchair next to her bed and picked up the Legos myself. "Maybe just answer some of my questions, princess Anastasia," I said emphasis on the 'princess' . She quickly looked up all color drained from her face and hastily broke eye contact "you... you, but how?" I smiled sadly at her, "you didn't think I would find out? "I asked raising a brow, "I am king after all,"
"But, but..."
"Doesn't matter," I now turned serious. "How did you escape? Who took you? How did you even end up here?" I was met with silence which turned into sobs. But that's not what got me, no . It was the look she had in her eyes. The hollow yet painful look in her eyes. Her eyes told no emotions yet was full of them. The one I noticed was fear. Her tale was not one with a happy ending. She looked out the window, eyes fixed on the moon.
" It's okay Anna, your safe here," Her gaze was unchanged
" No one is safe, nothing can escape him!"
"Anna?" She had gone into some kind of trance . "He is darkness..." She hesitated, "and he can feel her." Her eyes moved to her bump and she placed a hand on her stomach. She finally looked at me. In her eyes I saw despair, torment and anger. Her tears flowed continuously from her eyes. She took one last look at me and said," she is our hope and our demise." And with that she lost consciousness on her bed.
