The song for this chapter is " Scared to be lonely" by Martin Garrix and Dualipa.
In the days that followed, Zoe couldn't take her mind off the short kiss she had shared with Jordan. She'd always touch her lips at regular intervals. Although, the thought of Jordan's action was upsetting and soothing at the same time.
Like hell, she didn't like how she was feeling.
She shook her head and realised she was daydreaming and her fingers were on her lips.
" For the hundredth time, Zoe stop it."
She shunned herself but still it was of no use. The thought of Jordan kissing her that day still lingered in her mind.
It's been years since she had kissed someone and over the years she had refused Binta's advice about having a one night stand.
As a mother and a rape victim, Zoe had endured a lot of hardship, now thinking about all the hardship she had gone through, she concluded that love or any feeling whatsoever had no place in her life.
' No one can love you... Don't fight it.' The voices in her head warned.
A sudden knock on the door startled her. She glanced at her wristwatch, it wasn't time to pick up Chance from his after school book club. Without thinking about who could be at the door, she stood and walked to the door.
" Yes?" She said as she swung the door open.
And, there stood the person she had been thinking about ... Jordan. He was holding a packet of cookies in hand.
" Hi." He said with a radiant smile.
She rolled her eyes. " What are you doing here!?"
Zoe didn't wait for his response, she reached to close the door,
but he stopped her by holding her hand lightly. She jerked as he quickly pulled back his hand." I'm sorry." He breathed out.
" You should be!" She blurted out.
" Well...I'm here to apologise. Can I come in?" He asked as politely as he could.
" And why should I let you into my house?" She asked icily as she shot him a quizzical look.
" Look...I mean no harm. I promise... "
She gave him a long hard look and said "Come in."
She led him into the sitting room and cautiously waited for him to take a seat before she sat.
" So?" She raised a brow at him.
" I'm sorry for the kiss...I was out of my mind that day..." Jordan started to say but she cut him short.
" I see you came to remind me of that awful day... You see, Mr Wellington, I shouldn't have let you in but I thought it would be courteous of me to let you in. You came bearing cookies and you think that will make me accept your apology??"
Jordan gingerly dropped the packet of cookies on the center table and crossed his leg.
If rude was a person, it would be Zoe. Who on Earth refuses an apology as sincere as this?
He was actually sorry, really sorry but this lady doesn't seem to see it that way." I'm being sincere Zoe." He said slowly.
" I don't care! I think you should leave. " She said sharply.
