I ran my hand along the keyboard at school and sighed. I hit a single key and smiled. I'm not one to take an instrument seriously but I felt at peace here. Piano was Chelsea's thing and that's what brought me to the music room where she and Kenzi spent 70% of their free classes. It's not that I hated the fact that I'm sat here on my free time because I don't hate it here. It's the fact that I'd rather be down in study hall then here. I just...miss them.

"Sitting alone?" Came a voice that scared me out of my thoughts. I turned around to see Elena, Michael, Winter, Julian, and Mark. The voice belonging to Mark. I sent them a small smile and again looked at the keys.

"Did you know that Kenzi taught me the chords to I Think I'm In Love, here?" I said, I knew they didn't know that I was just asking because I felt the need to talk. "I told her, that it'd be impossible. That it was pointless but just before the small performance I had the song mastered. I guess it's sort of pointless now."

"She's not dead Avery. Don't talk like she's already dead," Mark warned me and I shook my head. "She's fighting this, she's promising us to fight this. She usually gives up the minute she gets hurt or sick or fails a test. We're lucky she's fighting."

"I know but...I went by the hospital this morning and she was still laying there in unconscious. She's already given up, just she hasn't said it," I told them and it must have made sense to them. They knew that Kenzi usually gave up the minute everything starts going bad and this was her way of giving up without saying she doesn't want to fight. "But...I have to have faith."

"This is you keeping the faith? Up here playing piano and remembering the good days?" Michael asked and I let out a soft chuckle. "Seriously Avery, it's not the best way to spend the next few hours."

"I'm up here making sure I don't forget the chords to it, and I'm not playing the piano. I don't even know how...the guitar on the other hand," I turn towards the fender guitar on the stand behind me and pick it up. "I'm playing," Elena and Winter roll their eyes at me before I played a chord on the guitar.

"You don't totally suck Madison," Mark scoffed. Me and Mark never got a long, we forced outselves to co-exist in the same environment when him and Kenzi were together but after they broke up, I went back to making snarky remarks and 'accidentally' running into him in the halls.

"That's the nicest thing I'm going to get out of you, huh?" I asked and he smirked at me. He's not so bad himself I guess, but I'll never tell him that. It got quiet until my phone dinged with a message.

GOT A NEW DOG. MEET LAMBERT! - Erik

"Erik got a puppy," I laughed and showed the others the cute beagle. The girls let out a small awh and Michael commented on the cuteness while Mark...completely ignored the picture and looked at a text and Julian smiled at it. "What's so important you can't look at an adorable puppy?"

"Lou...is all. Kenzi woke up finally and she's asking for me," He had a cringed up face. A look of conflict. She woke up. Kenzi actually woke up...and she's asking for Mark. Mark freaking Kepner of all fucking people.

"You're adopted right?" I ask suddenly and he looks at me weirdly. "I'm not saying it to be rude but...you're adopted."
