"Mom!"

Sydney jumped with a gasp, turning around in her bed, eyes squinted with drowsiness, only to see her daughter, Rory. "What? God. Hi."

"What are you doing?!" She yelled.

Rory was sixteen, as of two months ago, and, if Sydney was being honest, she didn't look much like her. Rory's hair was a chocolate brown colour and reached down just past her shoulders. She had prominent, icy blue eyes, that were definitely Sydney's, but other than that, there wasn't much in common.

Not anymore, at least.

"Having a heart attack." She muttered, before turning back and closing her eyes, trying to go back to sleep.

"I thought you were up! It's 7:10!"

"What?" Sydney mumbled into her pillow.

"It's 7:10!" She repeated. Sydney muttered something under her breath, but Rory couldn't hear what, so she grabbed her pillow, pulling out from under her head.

"Hey!"

"It's 7:10!"

"Stop it." Sydney told her, eyes closed as she grabbed the pillow back. "It's a quarter to 6:00."

"No, it's not!" Rory groaned.

"Yes, it is." She opened her eyes, lifting her head a little to see her better. "I set the clock for a quarter to 6:00, so it's--" She stopped when Rory picked up the small fuzzy blue clock from her nightstand. "It's 7:10!"

Sydney quickly threw the covers off, clambering out of her bed. She had a meeting with Rory's principal today.

Shit.

"I can't be late for school! And you have work in..." She looked down at her watch, "Ten minutes! Do you know what will happen when I turn up late?"

"The day's shorter?" Sydney groaned as she searched through her drawers, trying to find anything to wear.

"Mom, everyone knows who you are, okay?"

"Really? I had no idea." She snarked.

When Sydney turned sixteen, she had gotten an acting job for a small part in a tv show, and after that, they just kept coming in until eventually, she was one of the most known actresses in the world. That sounds like a brag, but it kind of is, on her part.

And then, when she turned twenty-one, she ran into Stanley Uris, and it didn't take the two to get close again. And, when she had Rory, Stan was there the whole time, and he was more of a father than Rory's dad ever had been.

"Everybody will know when I'm late."

"Ohh! So dramatic." She groaned, turning back to face Rory, "Where's the bathroom?"

Rory grabbed her shoulders, pushing her forwards and quickly to the bathroom that was across the hall. "We have to go! What if there's traffic?! Mom!"

"Ugh! I had this all planned!" Sydney yelled as she closed the door to the bathroom. "I was gonna get up early. I was gonna get coffee. I was gonna take a shower. I was gonna pick up my clothes from the dry cleaners."

Sydney froze, her eyes wide. She opened the door, "Oh, my God. My clothes."

"What?!"

"I- I don't have any clean clothes." She walked quickly back to her bedroom, Rory following after.

"It's 7:15."

"All my nice things were dirty." She moved to her wardrobe, filing through all the hung up stuff.
