*LAURYN'S POV*
It's always the,Lauryn, you're too big comments. Or,
You're pretty, but you're not my type.
All the niggas I have ever met in my life are just real life assholes.
Especially the man that I've had a massive crush on since elementary school.
David Brewster.
That man has been my dream man all of my life. But, of course, the one I call my best friend just had to have him first.
Symphony. Peep how the word phony is deadass in her name, too.
Symphony has always known how I feel about Dave, but she still continues to make a way for herself and take my place.
Not only does she do that with men, she does it with every damn thing I have in my life.
If I have the newest shoes in town? She has to go above and beyond to get even better looking shoes that are more expensive.
If I get a new job? She has to be the one to go look for an even better job. It's like she's always trying to stay in competition with me.
Our friendship has always been this complicated. We have a love-hate relationship with each other. It sucks, because I just wish we could have a normal friendship like everyone else.
Of course I have other friends, but she's always been the closest to me.
Remember when I said that all guys are assholes? I take that back. There's one guy who is head over heels for me, and that so happens to be Symphony's older brother Clarence.
Ever since high school, Clarence has been steady chasing after me. I mean, don't get me wrong, he's fine as hell. But I'm so hung over on Dave, I can't ever get myself to see past that.
Saying that to myself, maybe I should move on, huh?
My younger sister Candice thinks I should give Clarence a valid chance. Apart of me feels wrong because that's Symphony's brother. But she never cared enough about my feelings, so why should I care about hers?
"Lauryn, your knight and shinning armor is here to bring you to work!"
Candice shouted from downstairs, referring to Clarence as my knight and shinning armor.
I work as a hair dresser across town, so Clarence gives me rides just because he wants to.
I quickly grabbed my purse and made my way downstairs, hugging Candice on the way out.
"I'm not sure what time I'll be home, so I'll see you later."
"Okay, sis. Have a good day at work today."
Candice smiled as I walked out of our front door. I then made my way over to Clarence's car with a smile on my face.
"Damn! Why you always gotta look so damn fine, girl?"
Clarence questioned me with a smirk as he licked his lips, watching me get into the front seat with him. I playfully rolled my eyes and blushed.
"Stopppp. I can't with you. You really be too sweet."
"It ain't nothing but the truth, baby. You really the baddest bitch out here in Harlem. Can't nobody argue with that."
"You don't feel weird about messing around with your little sister's best friend?"
"Fuck Symphony. I love her and that's my little sister, but she selfish as fuck anyways. She don't be caring bout no one else but her damn self."
Clarence pulled off from my house while he shrugged. I shrugged along with him because I knew he was right.
"What chu doing after work? You think I can take you out for a nice dinner? Just the two of us?"
"And where were you planning on taking me?"
"That itself is a surprise. All you gotta do is say yes and the dinner with me could be yours."
"I honestly don't even understand why you wanna be seen with me in public, Clarence. I mean, look at you. You're extremely attractive and you wanna be with a girl like me."
"What do you mean by a girl like you? You're fine as hell, too. Just cause you're a bit bigger than the rest of these females out here, that don't mean you ain't beautiful. You beautiful as hell, inside and out. You're the type of girl that I wanna be able to bring home to my mama."
Clarence explained in a serious tone of voice.
I didn't know that he was that serious about me..
"I appreciate you, Clarence. No one has ever spoke about me in such a high manner before."
"I think your confidence is low cause of that nigga Dave. If you were to just leave your feelings for him alone and focus on me, you'd feel way better about yourself. I ain't here to hurt you like him. I'm here to help."
Clarence stopped his car, now in front of my job. I sighed a slight bit and grabbed my purse, opening the door to get out.
"I'll go out to dinner with you. Make sure you pick me up from here by six."
"Bet, lil mama. I'll be seeing you then."
Clarence smiled his brightest before pulling off after he made sure I got into the building.
"Girl, that nigga fine as HELL. I don't understand why you just don't take your chances and just fuck him already."
Monique said as she seen that it was Clarence dropping me off once again. Her nosey ass was looking through the window as I got dropped off.
"Nique is right. I woulda definitely BEEN bagged that fine ass Nigga and trapped him with kids."
Tiffany spoke up after Monique. I laughed and shook my head, making my way to my station to start to set up.
"You bitches are real life crazy."
"You're way too side tracked with what Symphony is doing with Dave. Just do you, and fuck her brother."
Mariah spoke up with a laugh. I looked at Mariah.
"Oh yeah? And what about you and Bashar? You two seemed to be playing a lot of games, last time I was concerned."
"Yeah, but the two of us know it's only about us. We don't have to go around and worry if we're talking to other people. We have each other locked down."
"I think what Mariah is tryna say is, bag him up before someone else does. You have a good ass man right in front of your face, but you rather be hung up on the dumbass who's fucking your best friend instead of you."
