There is a dark sky looming around the field where the fight between Jay and his cunning adversary broke out. It feels like this went south so fast that I don't think that anyone could've seen it coming, Jay thought. Jay is leaning on his knees, at the corpse of his friend many years and many more memories. There are tears filling up his eyes as he is seeing his friend's life slip away from them. In his hands, he can feel the warm blood turn cold in the middle of the cruel, frigid weather of this backwater planet where the conflict that led to the fight, had started out on.
"No, this is not how this is going to end, you hear me?" Jay said around his tears and cries for help.
The hand of his friend can be seen raising up to his face to console him, even from the distance of the Hidden One, Jay's so-called adversary. The mysterious figure is seen by those kneeling and standing around them, crewmembers and other alike, all with tears of some variety in their own eyes. Everyone is in shock as the Adversary slowly walks closer and closer over the kneeling captain. There is almost a self-satisfied smile on their face, which is the only part that can be made out through the fog from their breath and the rain just beginning to drizzle on the field.
"I wish there could have been a different path that we could have taken that didn't lead to this happening." The mysterious adversary said with a baritone voice that felt familiar to Jay for some reason. "However, this was inevitable. This was bound to happen from the day that you intervened with my plans."
Jay could only point his face at his adversary. However, his eyes have yet to part with the dying friend in his arms.
"WHY?!" Jay shouted.
"Why?" The adversary calmy recanted. "Well, I can't that you should be all that surprised I did tell you that a day like this would be happening sooner or later. Didn't I? There comes a time in a person's life, a time that teaches them about themselves. You were living your life, sure, but were you living it to the fullest? Were you getting all of it out of the lemon, as the saying goes. I have shown you that no one goes through life without ever losing some people. There doesn't exist a person that has ever lived a life worth living, who hasn't lost at least a few people in their life. Not that your mother can really be included. You probably don't even remember her that well, do you?"
The weak voice of the crewmember and friend calls out to Jay, and this gets Jay's attention much more than that of the adversary. It comes out so weak and low, that Jay can almost not hear what is being said. The voice is otherwise indiscernible and Jay can just barely understand that words that make it through the now downpouring raining.
"Don't let...don't let this...change you into something that you aren't. You are better than... him..." The dying friend utters with their final breath.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Jay screams from the deepest part of his being. "Why didn't you just take me? Why not me?!"
"How else shall you play this game of chess with me, if you are dead." The Mysterious person responded only seconds after Jay finishes his question. I don't that anyone else would make my life as fulfilled as you do. Again, who else, if not you? Anyone else feels like chicken with their heads cut off. You have the drive, especially now."
"This is not a game!" Jay shouted, his dead friend still in his hands.
"Oh!? I am having so much fun though." The Adversary snapped. "Please, let this serve as the cause for you to never stop this game until either of us win it."
"That's why you did this to them? All so that you can make me want to kill you more so now?" Said Jay.
"Yes." The Adversary said to Jay with a cold calmness that momentarily gave him chills. "Now you're getting it."
