I didn't believe Mario when he told me that Georgino liked me too. So, I tried to forget Georgino ever existed. I always send Marco to debrief him after a mission and I didn't look at him. Trust me, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do and it didn't make me feel better. I was currently sitting in a meeting room in the main house, waiting for our new assignment. My group consisted of Marco, Mario, Tino and Sandrino. We all grew up together. "I hope it's something easy, boys. I don't want to break a sweat again." Tino said and gave Mario a pointed look. He rolled his eyes. "It's not my fault that some cop made us and we had to run away." Before they could restart an argument, we had already settled I changed the topic. "Are you guys going to the party at Cindy's house?" They all groaned. "No, because we weren't invited. I swear, Cindy has such a huge crush on you." Sandrino complained and took out a cigarette. "Sorry boys, parties have to wait." I turned in my chair and looked straight at Georgino. Damn it. I had made it a week without seeing him, new record for me. And yet, here he was. "Georgino, why are you here?" Marco asked and crushed Sandrino's cigarette between his fingers. "I have a new assignment for you." He said but didn't stop looking at me. Neither could I. Mario pinched my side and I finally tore my eyes off him. Georgino sat behind the desk and stretched his arms over his head. You are angry, you are angry, you are angry – I chanted in my head. "I need you to help me find the guy who is robbing our foot soldiers. This has been going on for too long. We are leaving in an hour and will shadow a few of the soldiers until we can catch the guy." This was a job the newbies could do, not an experienced group like mine. "Good, go get ready." He opened the door for us and I was the last one to leave. He held me back by my elbow and gave me a cattish smile. "You can't ignore me on this mission, Matteo." I growled and yanked my arm back. He grinned triumphantly and closed the door behind me.
I knew that Georgino wasn't perfect in the 'normal' sense. He was quick to temper, hot-headed and he took whatever he wanted without thinking about others. But he was also kind, funny and really smart. I eyed him from the side and added handsome to the list. We were driving to the warehouse where all of us would pair up with a foot soldier. The others were forced to take a different car. Georgino's order. "So..." Georgino said and looked over to me. "You look hot when you are angry at me." I didn't reply. "You do know that I am your boss and you have to talk to me at some point. I can wait." "You are the most impatient man I have ever met." I gave in and Georgino grinned. "That's true." We fell silent again. "I'm sorry about that night." "Which part?" "The last one. I didn't want to hurt you like that." "Then why did you?" We reached the warehouse. "I don't know." "That's bullshit." I said and got out. My boys were already waiting by the entry. "Did you find out why we have to do this bullshit job?" Tino asked and lit a cigarette. "No and I don't appreciate your tone. This is your job and you do what you are told." Tino rolled his eyes but kept his big mouth shut for once.
Georgino paired us to the four soldiers that were going on their distribution routes. We were to follow them and not be seen. Georgino tried to come with me, but I was out of there before he could catch up. Marco and Mario also held him back with stupid questions. I grinned and hid further into the shadows. I was watching Enzo. He looked like a total nerd, glasses and all. Yet, he was one of the best footmen our family had. He had only made one stop at an apartment building when I noticed a man observing him. Enzo was obvious and turned the corner to walk to his next hand-off in the park. The man followed and so did I. How lucky was I? This could have gone weeks and the first day I watch Enzo our man shows up. I turned the corner and released a shout when a knife pierced my side. Shocked I looked at the man. He stroked out to stab me again. I stumbled backwards and started running away. Enzo better be still around here. I was pressing one hand against my stomach and tried to breathe through the pain. I saw Enzo sitting on a park bench. "Enzo!" I yelled and the kid looked at me in shock. "Who the hell are you? Are you bleeding!" He screeched and went as white as a wall. "Help me." He held me upwards and yelled for help. I tried to tell him to shut up. A jogger came to us and started dialling 911. "Ugh, Enzo. The drugs." "How do you? Oh-." He finally realized that cops showing up wasn't a good idea and grabbed his backpack protectively. The jogger pushed my shirt up and I tried to stop him. Enzo pushed him away and put my arm over his shoulder. We stumbled away from the perplexed jogger. As soon as we were out of his sight Enzo helped me sit on the ground. The pain was getting more intense. "Fuck." I breathed as I looked at my hands totally red. "We need to go away from here Enzo. The cops will show up here soon." I looked up and sighed when he was pointing a gun at me. "Seriously man? I probably just saved your life and drugs." Enzo eyes me suspiciously. "I'll trust you, but you touch the backpack and I'll shoot." I nodded and he struggled to get me off the ground again. "What now?" He asked and I told him to take my phone and call any number. Enzo did what I said all the while holding me upright. "Matteo? Everything alright?" I heard Georgino's voice and groaned. Of all the numbers... "Uh, here is Enzo. We are in the park." Enzo gave me a worried glance. "Matteo was stabbed... Hello?" Enzo cursed and pulled more of my weight on him. "Is he going to come or not?" That was a stupid question, so I didn't bother replying. We had reached the end of the park when a black car stopped in front of us. Georgino got out and took me out of Enzo's arms. "Matteo – Fuck." He said and pressed a kiss to my temple. "I already called the doctor and the rest." He put me in the backseat and tossed Enzo the keys. "Drive or I'll kill you." Enzo looked like he was about to pass out but started the car and followed Georgino's directions. "No need to be so mean." I whispered and Georgino growled at me. Under other circumstances I'd find that totally hot. "Please don't die." He pleaded and put pressure on the wound. "It's not that bad. I was stabbed before you know?" "I don't want to even think about it." He said and yelled at Enzo when he stopped rather abruptly in front of the doctor's house. He carried me inside. I heard the boys yell my name and hands pushing hair out of my face. "Fuck, Matteo. Who did this? I'll kill him." Mario said and clenched his jaw. The doctor pushed through them and sighed when he saw me. "Matteo, here again so soon?" "What's that supposed to mean?" Georgino growled but nobody answered him. "Hello doc." The older man smiled distracted. "Matteo, please tell your family to not breath down my neck and let me do my work." They resisted but after a while they left me and the doctor alone.
"I can't believe you got stabbed." Mario cooed and pressed a glass of water against my lips. "Slow sips." He advised and I rolled my eyes. The others were all doing something they thought I needed. Marco was on the phone with my mom to make sure I had clean clothes. Sandrino was hacking into someone's Netflix account for me. Toni was asking the doctor about the wound and how to change the dressing. Georgino was the only one who just stood next to me and held my hand. Mario had given me a meaningful look when he saw but I ignored him. Toni came back from the doctor. "You have to take is easy for the next few days and stay the night." Georgino's hold around my hand tightened. I looked over to him and he cleared his throat. "I can stay with you. Your friends can go home and sleep." There was an awkward silence after that. They all seemed to muster us, expect Sandrino. He was obvious to it and kept typing away on his phone. "Matteo... is this alright with you?" Marco asked and Mario threw an arm around him. "Oh, Marco. Matteo is fine with it, aren't you?" I nodded and fought of the blush. "We can go hunt down who stabbed Matteo." Tino suggested and grinned when the others cheered up. "He has already been taken care of." "Seriously?" I asked Georgino. "Did you really think I'd let him get away with stabbing you?" There was no doubt in my mind that the man was dead. "Alright. We will see you tomorrow, Matteo." Mario said and they all left the room. I waved at them and as soon as the door was closed Georgino took my head in his hands and kissed me. A kiss that meant to reassure him. His hands were all over me. Heat came from my neck up into my cheeks when he pushed himself closer to me. I felt a few pinpricks of pain and was reminded of the wound on my stomach. Ignoring that I grabbed his hair and kissed him deeper. Georgino stopped the kiss after a while but stayed close to me. "I can't believe you got stabbed on my assignment." I gave him a lopsided smile. "We will laugh about it in a few days." The stare he gave me made me rethink that statement. "Does this mean that you aren't going to ignore me after today?" Georgino asked and I rolled my eyes. "I could ask you the same question." Georgino gave me a guilty look. "I'm sorry. I freaked out and... I'm just sorry. Please forgive me." He took my hands in his and gave me a chaste kiss. My heart was trying to beat out of my chest. "I forgive you. Just never treat me like that again. It hurt." Georgino gave me one of his rare smiles. "I promise I won't make you sad again. Not even for one second." He leaned down and kissed me.
