After a few weeks, it was time to move to Canada for the start of the World Cup. We still had a few days before our first game, but the excitement was high and everyone wanted to start training as soon as possible.

In the meantime, many things had happened: I had come out to my parents, who accepted me as I was and told me how much they loved me, and Christen had started texting again with that guy she had kissed, meaning that even if I wanted to, our relationship couldn't have been fixed.

Deep down I still wished for us to still be together, but after that the chances were low... perhaps non-existing.

"Tobin? Tobin!" Jill yelled at me during practice, since I was staring at my feet instead of listening to her.
"I'm sorry, I got distracted" I murmured, petrified.
"By what, the grass? Everyone else, three laps. Tobin, stay" she ordered.

I saw everyone running away, and I was just standing there like a newbie who had been caught on her phone instead of training.

"I'm really sorry Jill, I didn't mean to-"
"I know. What's going on?" she cut me off, putting a hand on my shoulder.
"Uhm... nothing, I was just thinking about stuff" I shrugged my shoulders, playing it cool and not getting deep in my situation.
"Christen stuff?" she smirked.
"How-"
"Oh please. Everyone knows" she rolled her eyes, as if she knew the whole thing.

Great.

"Anyway, whatever's going on between you guys it's your own business, but don't let it distract you from what we are here to do. We all need you at your best, alright?"
"It won't, it's been a few weeks actually, so... I'll be fine" I weakly smiled.

She sensed that something was wrong, but didn't get into it. It was something I needed to clear up with Chris, and I was there to train, not to vent about my love life.

"Okay, now move those legs. I believe Lauren and Amy are waiting for you."

I turned around and saw my two friends waiting for me with a gigantic smile on their faces. At least I still had them, and that wouldn't have changed, ever.

After about an hour, a lot of footwork, running and passing, we had two more exercises to do before going back inside and eat lunch.

"Okay, now divide in couples and let's start the next few drills" Jill ordered.

She put left backs with right backs, center backs with center backs, midfielders with midfielders and, of course, right wingers with left wingers.

"Sorry Tobin" she said, giving me a reassuring smile when she assigned me to Christen.

Once the couples were set, she stated explaining what we had to do before letting us begin.

"Listen Tobin, I really didn't mean for this to go berserk" Christen immediately started saying, while passing me the ball.
"Shouldn't you have thought about that before kissing that guy?" I raised my eyebrow, determined to not let my guard down.
"I should have and I didn't, and I'm sorry."

She looked at me with her big, beautiful eyes, and my whole plan of being cold with her went to hell. I felt a shiver down my spine and I sighed, ready to face her.

"Whatever. I guess we're gonna have to work together anyway, so..." I said, trying to still act carelessly.
"Are you forgiving me?" she exclaimed, surprised.
"Yes, cause I don't want to ruin this World Cup for anyone. We'll see about the future."
"THANK YOU!" she exclaimed, yelling, jumping in my arms in front of everyone.

Of course everyone turned around, given the unexpected yell, and I saw Kelley and Meghan giving me the thumbs up, reprising some good laughs.

"This doesn't mean I wanna go back together with you, Christen. You're with that guy, and frankly I don't feel like you and I were meant to be" I immediately cleared up, to make things clearer.
"What does that mean?"

She wanted to continue the conversation, but Jill said something and we both changed our focus.
