VANCE LAY IN bed looking at his ceiling, why couldn't he love his daughter?

Bruce walked into the room, sat on the bed and looked at Vance, he asked softly, "You okay? You've seemed a bit down." Vance sat up and looked at Bruce he said, "I don't know, but I just— I just can't seem to care for Kiku, is there something wrong with me Rue?" Bruce shook his head, "No, no, there's nothing wrong with you, a lot of people go through this after having a baby, my mom went through this when she had me, for a while it was my dad taking care of me. But soon, you will love her V." Vance frowned.

He whispered, "I don't know... I just can't handle anything, all of the crying and everything, it just feels like it's too much for me..." Bruce took Vance's hands, and the other boy tried to get Vance to that what he was feeling was normal and that he would learn to love Kiku, only that it would take time but one day he would.

Finney came over as Allan he to go run a few errands and Vance couldn't bring himself to even get close to the baby everything overwhelmed him as she kept crying, begging for attention from her parent, but Vance couldn't give her that attention.

Finney had to take care of Kiku as Vance couldn't do it himself, Vance felt bad for Finney, but Vance couldn't do it, Finney calmly walked over to Vance with Kiku in his arms, Vance just mindlessly stared at the baby, she looked at her father, Finney whispered, "Try and hold her V." Vance slowly took the baby in his arms and looked at her with wonder in his eyes as he looked down at his carbon copy.

He held her in his arms for the first time since the hospital, only he wasn't scared of holding her, she didn't cry, she happily giggled being held in her father's arms, Vance felt a smile playing on his lips as he looked at his baby laughing in his arms, he couldn't help but feel love for her, only...

When she started to cry Vance froze, he didn't know how to get her to stop and the sound hurt his ears, Vance felt tears well up in his own eyes as his daughter cried, why couldn't she stop crying?

Finney spoke, "Try rocking her, that might help." Vance tried that, only he didn't know how to do it, Finney knew how to do it as his mother sometimes couldn't take care of Gwen when she was younger and he would have to do it as Tarrance was still a raging alcoholic at the time.

Finney demonstrated how to do it, and Vance did his best to copy him, and it calmed Kiku down, she stopped crying.

Vance relaxed as Kiku stopped crying and relaxed in his arms.

He felt like he had done something, but he still had doubts, what if he messed something up and he couldn't calm Kiku down like he had just done, what if he panicked and lost control and Kiku kept crying, and crying, and crying, and Vance couldn't stop it.

That annoying, ear-bleeding crying.

Vance would lose it if he had to listen to her cry again, it pained him but also made him annoyed.

He didn't like the crying, it was the one thing he hated.

Vance rested on the couch with Kiku laying on his chest when Bruce got home with Lalia and Allan, they had gone out to buy a few things for Vance and Kiku, and Bruce smiled as Vance had finally gotten to get close to his daughter.

Bruce felt at peace with that thought.

Vance could love his daughter, and he could understand why Vance had been distant from Kiku, he wasn't sure how to take care of her and he wasn't sure what to do about her or if something he did would hurt her.

Bruce let the two rest as he went to Kiku's room and placed her new toys down in her toy bin, and then he headed to Vance's art studio, leaving his new art stuff in a place where Vance would find them.

When Vance woke up he smiled down at his daughter resting on his chest, she looked peaceful, he calmly picked her up and walked to her room, placing her in her crib, gladly placing a soft kiss on her forehead before heading to his art studio, where he found Bruce setting up the gifts that he had gotten his boyfriend.

Vance spoke with a grin on his face, "What are you doing love?" Bruce looked startled as he turned to face Vance, Bruce smiled, "I got you something and I was just leaving them where you could find them."  Vance smiled as he looked at the paintbrushes and new tins of paint.

Vance was glad to have someone like Bruce in his life.

He couldn't be happier to have someone love him as Bruce could, no one could replace Bruce, which is why Vance made a promise to himself, he would keep his family safe, and he wouldn't let anything happen to Kiku or Bruce.

Vance was going to keep that promise no matter what it cost him.
