I was in the pit with Thomas. It was day and he just woke up. "Hey, you okay?" I ask and Thomas pants a little. "Oh my God, Lynn." He says and I frown.
"Lynn?" I ask and he sits up, hugging me. It was the tightest hug I've ever felt and I can barely breathe, but it felt nice.
He stops, looking around disoriented. "What the hell were you thinking?" Chuck says and I chuckle. Minho and Newt were here too.
"What happened?" He asks and looks at me. "Gally's taken control. He said we had a choice. Either join him, or get banished at sundown with you." Newt says and I scoff.
"I didn't even get the choice." I say and smile at him. "And the others agreed to that?" Thomas asks and my smile fades. "Gally has everyone convinced that you're the reason all this has happened." I tell him and his expression sours.
"Well. He's been right so far." He says and I frown, looking at the three boys before looking back at Thomas. "This place, it's not what we thought it was. It has... multiple layers." He says and glances at me.
"Lynn- or, Jane as you know yourself now. We're not even from here." He says and I scoff. "That's ridiculous." I say and shake my head. "What? We traveled dimensions?" I say sarcastic and he sighs.
"I don't know."
It stays silent and I frown. "You're serious?" I ask and he nods. "This place, it's not a prison, it's a test." He says and I frown. "It started when you were kids. They were experimenting on you guys. They showed me some thing when I first arrived about a month ago, how it works." He says and I frown.
"They sent people up like clockwork." He says and I look at Newt. "To the Glade?" He asks and Thomas nods. "Yeah. But apparently not all of us." I say and look at Thomas. "What do you mean Jane- or Lynn." Newt asks and I look back at Thomas.
"Guys, I'm one of them. The people who put you here, I worked with them." He says and I frown. "So were you." He says and I shake my head.
"What?" I whisper not believing him. "That's the first layer. Second, in our world, there were these people who we called ghost Riders. They were there when it stormed, and once you've been marked, you're gonna get taken." He says and I frown.
"But in our world, I'm erased." He says and I let a tear fall. "What?"
"Our friends, they don't remember us anymore so there's no way they're gonna find us here." He says and I nod slowly. "I mean hell. They even gave us other names." He says and I nod in understanding."So my name's Lynn?" I ask and he nods. "Yeah, it's short for Rosalynn. My name is Stiles." He says and I frown. "Stiles?" I ask and he nods.
After taking a minute in a silence to process, I look around me. "I don't believe you." I say simply.
"What?" Thomas asks. "I don't believe you." I say again. "Another world? Ghost Riders? Now, erasing us from our existence. That I believe." Thomas looks at me.
"You're telling me you have trouble to believe that we were kidnapped, but our memories being erased, that you believe?" He asks and I chuckle.
"Yes." I say and he sighs.
"Even so, why wouldn't they trust us?" I ask and he sighs. "It doesn't matter." He says and I sigh. "He's right, it doesn't matter. Any of it." Newt says, interrupting our little conversation.
"Because the people we were before the maze, they don't exist anymore, or in your case, your other world, or whatever." He says, shaking his head.
"These creators took care of it. But what does matter is who we are now and what we do now." He says and smiles.
"You went into the maze and you found a way out." Newt says and I glance at Thomas.
"But if i hadn't Alby would still be alive." Newt states at him, not saying anything. "Maybe." He says eventually.
"But I know that if he were here, he would be telling you the exact same thing." I look over at Thomas. "Pick your ass up and finish what you started." He says and I smile.
"Because if we do nothing, that means Alby died for nothing and I can't have that." He finishes and we nod. "Okay. Okay, but we gotta get through Gally first." Thomas says and Newt smiles. "We'll take care of that, just pretend you're passed out."
. . .
I was sitting, leaning against Thomas' head. "Can I ask you a question?" I say softly. "Of course." He says and looks up.
"Did we have friends, there?" I ask and look at him. "Best friends." He corrects and I feel tears whelming up, an overwhelming feeling taking over.
"Why?" I whisper, shaking my head. "Why us?" Thomas takes my hand, squeezing it. I feel like that is probably our little thing.
"I don't know, Lynn, but I do know we are going to get out of here, because trust me-" he scoffs to himself, smirking. "They're not gonna last without us."
I smile, feeling warmth. I stay quiet for a while, testing the word in my head. "Stiles." I breathe out, the word rolling of my tongue.
"That's me." I give him a peck on his cheek. "I might not remember, but I think my heart does, and who am I to ignore that?" I say and Thomas chuckles.
"Woah, a true poet."
