Veer's POV:

Shrishti strolled to me while I stood on the balcony. I looked over at her and saw her just taking in the right of the house before us. Her finger was twitching. I took her hand in mine, lacing my fingers into hers. She didn't seem to protest for long. She held my hand too.

"Why are you nervous?" I asked her.

"How'd you know?" she asked. The utter audacity of her to ask that. Just the way she exhaled her breath when she came here was enough. I just smiled.

"You scared because this mission is risky?"

"Yes. I...Do you know what they say? They say risks are essential to all businesses. But mine...had always been no risks. I had every move of mine planned before I set feet into inexperienced grounds."

"Are you worried that we'll fail?"

"More than failing... it's the feeling of losing people that scares me. It's the feeling of having no one to care about. That scares the living shit out of me. I'm afraid, Veer. That I'll love Aisha, Shiv, the twins, this family..." she paused and looked at me, "I'm afraid of losing you too. Even though you can never be mine."

I looked down, disappointed. It was excruciating for me to see her believe that we can never be something, anything. It was all the more frustrating to me too. I'll be damned if I let this frustration continue.

I would probably die out of awkwardness after this but that's something I brought on myself.

I pulled Shrishti to me, planting my lips onto hers. For a second I didn't feel her kiss back and immediately pulled back. Shrishti looked at me like she had been holding back all this time. She scoffed.

"I'll regret this," she said and grasped my collar, pulling me in to smash her lips onto mine. I held her face with one hand while the other wrapped around her thin form.

It felt like nothing around us mattered. I was the first one to claim her lips, but this felt a dozen times more special. It was one in a thousand chance that we'll end up together and to be very true, I would trade myself to take those odds.

Our breaths started coming short and we had to pull away before we suffocated. Shrishti heaved out heavy breaths while I pursed my lips in a vague attempt to contain that kiss for as long as I can.

"You...are you sure?" I spoke, respecting the boundaries she had set. Shrishti just smiled genuinely. She smiled as brightly as she did when she was in college. She was different but not so different after all. She grabbed my face again, pulling me in for another kiss. I rested my arms on her waist while she rested hers on my shoulder.

If someone saw this, they would think it's a total movie scene where the protagonists come together but we, only we would know, how far it was from a movie scene. But I didn't mind drowning in delusions. Oh, how badly I've wanted to do this since the moment she looked at me like that in the lobby in Russia.
