Lucinda swam with the mermaid, finding perfect freedom at last in the sea. Once Edena took her hand, she was able to breathe underwater as if by magic, and then Lucinda was able to see all the beauties of the undersea world - the coral reefs, and coloured fishes, and the sand beneath them that shone like silver, with bright stones like jewels.
But there was nothing under the sea or above it that was more beautiful than the mermaid .
And after many golden days and balmy nights, they came to an enchanted isle where the trees were green as emeralds, the flowers shone like rubies, and the beach was a strip of pale amber rimmed by a turquoise sea. It was a little island just made for two, with every morning a rose-tinted sunrise, and every evening made of millions of stars shining in a sky of black velvet.
And here the two of them lived happily ever after, which was the end of all Lucinda's adventures, and the beginning of the greatest adventure of all, which would last forever.
