NYA'S POV

"Fuuuuccccckkkk." I groan, rubbing my eyes vigorously with my palms. My hands are weirdly pale and bony-looking, so much so that I can see my veins without even having to squint. "Why does getting shot hurt this bad!? I swear, if I actually died, I would have clawed my way up from the Cursed Realm to murder the dude who invented guns all over again."

"Nya. Not funny." Kai's stare is so intense that it feels like a pair of lasers are about to melt holes in my head. Not that it's anything new; he always reacts like this when I get hurt. Kai may act all tough, but he's a big softie. "Somebody shot you, and the investigation hasn't gotten anywhere."

I huff. "I know I got shot. I can feel it. Isn't someone supposed to give me drugs for stuff like this?"

I tap lightly on the bandage wrapped around my arm. The hospital told us I would be okay and sent me home, much to my dismay. No hospital meant no drugs, and no drugs meant that the wound would keep hurting as if the Cursed Realm was partying it up in my arm.

"Your body doesn't react well to the painkillers we have. That's on you." Kai rolls his eyes and pushes un-gelled hair out of his tired eyes. It looks like he hasn't slept for days. "Are you doing okay?"

I shoot him a glare with all the strength I can muster. "Yes, sir. My arm is staging a revolt against the rest of my body, but the sky looks nice and clear today, so I'm doing absolutely splendid."

"Good," Kai says absentmindedly before stretching his arms with a grunt. "I've already packed your stuff, so we're moving out on Tuesday."

"Moving out?" I scrunch my eyebrows together in confusion. Did whoever's in charge prepare a vacation for us in their guilt? Did Kai make such a fuss they're sending us away for a while? Possible answers flood my head, only a single word escaping my lips. "W...wha?"

"They attacked you because we became heirs. Do you seriously think I'll stay here for another second?" Kai's hands tremble with a wave of oppressed anger. "I won't let this happen again. Never."

I'm in too much shock to utter a word. The First Spinjitzu Master serves us a whole fortune on a silver- no, golden- platter and Kai wants to say 'sayonara'?

Kai's worried for me, but the fact just seems to annoy me instead of console me. I'm not a

"Are you freaking kidding me!? We can't just leave!"

My mouth moves faster than my brain. I might pride myself on being more of an intellectual than Kai (which isn't that big of an achievement, by the way), but I'm still a Smith, and Smiths have faster bodies than brains. In poorer places like Ignacia, reacting meant surviving.

"Yes, we can. And we are. On Tuesday." Kai folds his arms, trying to glare me into submission.

Kai wants to butt heads? No problem.

"Kai, my dear brother, that wasn't just an exclamation of surprise," I say sweetly. I cup my face with my hands and bat my lashes. "I'm not leaving."

"Nya, don't argue with me on this," Kai grits his teeth, somehow managing to look even colder than before. It's impressive, I admit, but I bet I can do worse. "What if they were trying to kill you? The investigation is going nowhere. It's like we're running in circles without a single clue. And if we don't know who did it, they can waltz on in and pew-pew you in the face."
