Chapter 7 - Third Wheel

Waking up with a bad headache, Maze rushed to go to work. Kiss Snuggle goodbye and jump into the car. Traffic is bad and the hangover feeling is not helping either. She's almost an hour late and quickly jumps into her daily tasks. Her colleagues were worried about her since she's been going out a lot lately. On lunch break she was smoking at the office veranda. Her phone beeps and it was a message from Jewel. "I have a free movie ticket pass, want to come?" She remembered that Candy and her have plans later. "Can't come, I have dinner plans later with a friend" "Bring her along then, I'll save two tickets for the both of you." Maze stares blankly as she enjoys her cigarette. Then she replied to Jewel. "See you then!"

Candy and Maze were waiting at the Cinema lobby for Jewel. She arrived looking directly at Maze with the cute smirk on her face. Maze heart felt like it was sinking into a black hole. She misses her a lot but is trying to play it cool. Jewel gave Maze a peck on the cheek and whispered to her ear. "Happy to see you again. BTW next time don't drink too much." Maze gave her a flustered look and thought about how she knew about last night's drinking. Then she remembered that Jewel liked Anne's post. Jewel gave her the movie ticket and was completely ignoring Candy's presence. "I need to work but I'll see you inside when the movie starts." Jewel disappeared in the crowd as Candy and Maze went inside the movie house. The movie was starting and Jewel was out of sight. Then at the middle part of the movie Jewel sat beside Maze. They had this quiet stare at each other and Jewel gave her a cute smile. Maze can't focus as her heart beats faster and faster. They were sitting next to each other elbow to elbow. It was complete silence but stolen stares once in a while. Candy did not matter at that moment. The movie ended and Jewel had to stay for work. She sent Candy and Maze off but whispered to Maze. "Next time don't drunk dial me then go out on a date with other girls the next day. For what it's worth, I miss you too." She reached out to shake Candy's hand and said it was nice to meet you. 

Maze and Candy continue their date over dinner. Maze checked her phone to see who she called last night and to her surprise she called Jewel multiple times. She was too drunk to remember but trying to play it back in her head.
Scenarios of last night drunk calls started flashing.

Maze sitting beside the bowl while calling Jewel. "Why don't you like me??"

Maze laying on the floor and throwing tantrums.
"You made me like you then in the end just rejected me. Why were you playing with my emotions?"

Maze head on the side and started to fall asleep.
"I miss you..."

"Earth to Maze!" Maze covered her face out of embarrassment. That was her first time drunk calling anyone. "So Jewel is your ex?" Maze looks at Candy with a flustered face. "I used to like her but the feeling was not mutual." "It doesn't seem that way though. I think she likes you back." "Well, she's really good at sending mixed signals."

A message from Jewel came in saying "Come by my house once you finish with your date." Maze replied "See you then..."

The date was over and as Maze was about to go to the parking lot someone grabbed her hand. It's Joy from the night out and also Anne's friend. "Perfect to see you here! Now I'll have someone to drink coffee with." She continues to hold her hand as they walk to the coffee shop. "What are you doing here this late?" Maze checked her clock and said "I'm actually going somewhere to meet someone." "Is that someone the girl you kept yapping about the other night? Well let her wait because she is straight up playing with you."  Message came in from Jewel. "Are you on your way here now?" Maze stood up and grabbed her bag. "I really have to go, she's waiting." Joy sat her down and gave her a big smile. "Let her wait for a while. I ordered coffee for the two of us, stay here with me for at least an hour and keep me company." Joy took Maze's phone and captured a photo of them. She posted it on her Facebook and gave the phone back. "That will pissed her off!" The hours went by easy as Joy was fun to hangout with. Maze checked her phone and saw missed calls  from Jewel. She stood up and said her farewell to Joy. Driving to Jewel's house, Maze tries to give her a call. No answer and as she was parked outside she sent her a text "I'm outside your house now" She replied "I'm not coming out. Go home it's already late, maybe next time come here earlier as we agreed."
Maze tried calling Jewel but no answer and the light on her room was turned off.
