The next few days went by in a blur. He worked his ass off as it was the only thing that could tire him out enough not to think about their situation. Nines tried compalining a few more times, but Gavin shut it down and he finally let up when he reminded him they were willing to get rid of Gavin if Nines tried anything. Gavin wasn't actually sure about his words, but he was sure about Connor willing to put a bullet through Nines' head. He caught a glimpse of him a few times, always talking with someone looking all serious.

Hank was actually the one who came to check up on them a few times and made sure the blue-haired Traci was working them to the bone. Gavin flipped him off during one such conversation. He was so tired that evening from work he skipped dinner and went right to sleep, not even taking off his shoes. He woke up with his shoes being neatly put away on the floor. He asked Nines about it, but the android pretended not to know anything and they bickered all morning about it. They still sat at the loser's table, but the short-haired Traci joined them one morning.

She sat next to Nines, opposite Gavin. "Hi. I haven't seen you two in the garden since three days ago. Everything okay?"

Gavin raised an eyebrow at her. "Really? You ask me if everything's okay doing forced labor?"

She giggled. "You put so much energy in it I wouldn't have known it was forced if Traci didn't tell me how you got here."

"So you know we're technically your enemies and you still come to chit-chat?"Gavin asked incredulously.

"I know right? Traci would NOT be happy with me if she knew." She rolled her eyes. "She's worried about me, but I can see that you're a good person. " She had a soft adorable smile.

Gavin was hit by a pang of guilt when he remembered how he treated androids before, especially Connor. "I'm not a good person." He told her firmly.

"Even if that's true..." She looked to Nines. "You have someone you want to protect."

His eyes shifted between Nines and Traci. "I don't think I like what you're insinuating."

She just waved her hand. "Oh please, it's obvious. I've heard the story from Tom. How you valiantly came to save him and dragged him away when he was injured." She addressed the next sentence to Nines. "You're lucky to have someone care about you so deeply."

Nines tilted his head. "Detective Reed is a good person, no matter how much he insists he's not. However, you are mistaken. Our relationship is strictly professional and it will stay that way as I am just a machine not capable of harboring feelings."

She gave him a pitying look. "One-sided love hurts."

Gavin shook his head in disbelief. "There's no 'love' to speak about." He motioned between the two of them.

Traci giggled again and shrugged. "If you say so." She got up from the table. "Well I need to go before Traci finds me. I wasn't kidding when I said she wouldn't be happy. See you later!" and with that, she left them alone yet again.

Gavin pointed at her with his thumb and gave Nines a disbelieving look. "Can you believe that?"

Nines had a stone face. "Indeed I can. You do seem to be fond of my presence, oddly enough."

Gavin frowned. "Go fuck yourself." Nines lifted one eyebrow and was about to say something, but Gavin stopped him with a raised hand. "If you say one word about your plastic dick, I swear to god, I will make you eat it."

Nines seemed to be doing his best to keep his thoughts to himself, but his goddamn smirk conveyed all of them loud and clear. It only pissed Gavin off even more and set his mood for the entire day. The sneaky looks the pixie-cut Traci gave them whenever they interacted during the day didn't help. With one Traci being like a prison camp supervisor, the other one teasing him and Nines being a fucking prick, he was very grateful for Luther. He mentally thanked whoever made Luther for making him so quiet and reserved.
