Surprisingly enough, no one bothered them on their way back to their room. Gavin was starting to contemplate escape plans, but scratched them once he realised there were basically moving cameras everywhere. He wondered if Nines was also looking for escape routes. If he wanted to get back to his mission. He was definitely looking around and scanning the environment. "Hey Tin can. Why so quiet today? You'd normally have a sarcastic comment or two already. Cat got your tongue?" There was no reason he couldn't tease him a bit to entertain himself. He didn't have his phone anymore, so it's not like he could play snake or whatever the companies still forced to be downloaded.

"If you're hoping I was thinking about you, I must disappoint you."

"Hah, bullshit. You always think about me. I'm the only thing occupying your mind." He winked at the android.

The android shot him a look and Gavin got a glimpse of his LED which blinked yellow for a second. "Alright, I'll admit I was thinking about you. I was trying to figure out how can a seasoned detective and a self-centered child be one and the same person."

Gavin made a dramatic face of shock and put a hand over his heart. "You hurt me Nines."

Nines lifted one eyebrow. "I doubt that. You have a skin thicker than me."

Gavin smirked. It's been a long time since they've shared such light-hearted banter. It made him remember the night in the club again. His emotions quickly soured again. How could he have been so stupid back then. He should have known better than to get attached to an android, no matter how handsome. Even now, comparing him to all the androids around, it stood out how much of a machine he was. He was happy they finally reached their room and he could get some rest. He took off his shoes and put his jacket on the nightstand before throwing himself on the bed. He was painfully reminded that although it was soft enough to sleep on, it still had a steel contruction. "Fuck. Argh my back..." He massaged the spot that hit the steel frame slats the hardest.

"Has it occured to you to think before you act, Detective?" Asked Nines flatly.

"Fuck you prick... you like laughing at my pain?"

"I was merely asking out of concern for you." He said unconvincingly.

Gavin hissed. "Continue talking and I'll fucking deck you."

Nines would have probably retorted with something, if there wasn't a knock on the door. "I'll get it." and Nines was already at the door before Gavin had the time to get up or even protest. A lady with short white hair was standing behind the door.

"Hi, my name is Kara. Luther told me you're our new neighbours." She had a sweet voice and even sweeter smile. Gavin finally managed to get out of bed and join Nines at the door.

"That's right. I'm Nines and this is.. Gavin." Nines introduced them a little coldly.

Gavin stretched out a hand past him to Kara and she shook it. "Gavin Reed, pleased to meet you. Don't mind this prick. Despite not being deviant, he's every bit moody."

Kara laughed a bit awkwardly and eyed Nines who wore a stone expression. "We've heard you also don't have two beds and Alice had the idea to share a blanket at least. We had a spare." From behind Kara emerged a little girl Gavin didn't notice before.

She stretched out her hands holding a fluffy thick blanket to Nines. He wordlessly took it from her. "You look a lot like Connor. Is he your brother?" Asked the little girl innocently.

Nines tilted his head. "In a way."

"Thank you for the blanket. We appreciate it." Jumped in Gavin.

Kara nodded and smiled nervously. "Of course. We're right next door if you ever need anything. Goodbye. C'mon Alice."
