Having siblings is not for the weak.

But if the circumstances allowed for it, you'd end up with genetically predisposed best friends for life. And I was so blessed that this was the case for me.

No matter how far afield my siblings and I strayed, when we all came together, we relished in a bond unlike any other. I had two people with whom I shared every moment of my childhood with. Who knew me better than I knew myself at times. They taught me how to be part of a community, and the value of kinship.

When I got all As on my report card, I couldn't wait to bring it home so I could share my reward with my brothers. When I made the cut for the Freshman Basketball Team, Wild didn't hesitate to take us on a joyride in his new car, even letting my 15 year old self take a spin. And after Wild moved out, Vince made sure I was never alone, even though that came in the form of him coming in my room uninvited, starting a boxing match unprovoked and leaving the door upon his exit. And I always made sure he was good, meaning he was well into early adulthood before he really started having to pay for shit by himself.

But on the flip side, it also meant having a witness to your most vulnerable, humiliating moments.

No matter how cool one of Wild's girlfriends thought he was, I would always make sure they knew he slept with a nightlight on until the age of 12.

I could have been feeling myself to the max, wearing the flyest outfit ever, only to be reminded by Vince about the time I tried to give myself an edge up as a teenager and ended up pushing my hairline back an inch.

Malia thought Vince was the sexiest man alive, but that didn't deter Wild and I from humorously recounting the story of how an unfortunate fall down the stairs meant he didn't have front teeth until he was 8.

We'd seen each other through everything.

Catching each other in compromising positions, childish obsessions that had us dressing up as superheroes for weeks on end, ferocious fights about who was going to be 'Player 1' on the game and covering for each other when in trouble; we were three peas in a pod.

And we would always see each other through the lens of our past selves.

So it didn't matter how well my all black Brioni Suit was cut, or how suave I looked in it. The details weren't of any relevance to them; the black shirt that was open just enough to show off the thin gold chains paved in diamonds that I paired with the iced out cross pendant I treated myself to a few weeks ago were inconsequential.

Even though my skin had long cleared up, the look on my face transported them back to a time I had some of the most resistant acne known to man. And my barber might as well have trimmed me up with a spoon.
