maya woke up in a sweat. pressure compressed on her brain as she tried to snap out of her bloody dreaming haze. she didn't have nightmares often and as a result her brain couldn't process them. she didn't know why this happened, it wasn't like she had a bad night.

most of her evening was spent with percy, dealing with his doubtful wit. he managed to force her into an argument of whether ariel was their niece or not. and although she'd never admit it to percy, she enjoyed the annoying bickering and sarcastic comments that streamed from their relationship.

maya finally crawled out of bed to turn off the lights, only to find herself in an empty cabin. as far as she could tell percy wasn't there and neither was his pen. his bed was made and everything else remained untouched. odd, percy never woke up early, he would sleep in as much as he could and pummel maya for liking early morning.

the only other place percy could have been was with annabeth. but at five a.m. in the morning? as far as she could remember annabeth lived in a cabin full of siblings and percy didn't like sleeping in a crowd.

so she didn't get dressed, allowing the cold air to nip at her skin as she searched the camp property. when she found the mess hall, strawberry fields, the hill and he armory empty she resorted to calling blackjack, who unfortunately didn't know anything about percy except for the fact he owed the pegasus donuts.

after that, she woke annabeth, who was just as, if not more distraught about percy's disappearance. soon enough, the entire camp knew and sent out search parties for him. together, annabeth and maya scouted the new york area and neighboring states, finding nothing. maya didn't want to crush sally's heart as the titan war had just ended and they were happy. percy, maya and sally were happy. and now that was all gone.

little did maya know, this was the doing of the gods, specifically Hera, who had for some reason everything against the jackson twins. as if her peacock was any better than them.

and that, was how maya ended up in the grand canyon, in a chariot looking for a guy with one shoe in hopes of finding her brother.
