He was dead. He had to be dead. He must have drowned even though he was the best swimmer. It was all to sudden. His world had gone black.
He shot up, gasping for breath. He coughed up a stream of water, nearly choking. Something felt odd though. Like how his feet felt bare, and how he felt no skin.
Wait a second. His hands were wings! Tan wings with hints of brown. And his feet were talons! He had actual talons! Four owl shaped talons!
"This can't be happening..." He thought. Had he gone crazy? Was this some post death dream? Was it all just his wild imagination?
"I'm in the world of owls. And this looks like...like..." He stopped short at his words. He was dumbfounded by this discovery. He was in no other place but the one and only Tyto forest. In fact, he was in the one and only Soren's hollow.
"But I'm not supposed to be here. This place is just in the books..." His worlds trailed off. He was definitely seeing this. It was definitely real. And it was where he was presumably stuck in.
"Why am I here?" He asked himself. He seemed to be young, maybe the age of Soren when he got snatched by a St. Aggie's owl.
Speaking of them, he felt talons grip his sides and loft him into the air. He was frightened as the owl rose to the sky with him. By the look of it, the owl was a Marsh Owl. Female even!
"Wait, where are you taking me? To St. Aggie's?" He said, but that would be ridiculous. St. Aggie's had been destroyed for so many books! Why did he say that?
"Hah! Those owls were fools. You'll be staying at the Shadow Canyon with the Shadow Hunters, boy. You'll fit right in by the looks of it." She scoffed, starting to dive down.
As they reached the stony prison, other owls came in line. He could tell what the first few types of owls in their talons were. A golden masked owl, a pygmy owl like Primrose, a whiskered screech like Ezylryb, and a boreal Owl like Grimble.
Then they arrived at the stony perch which held a huddled group of other young owls. Amar was dropped beside the whiskered screech, who had his wings raised defensively. The pygmy was huddled beside the golden masked owl, while the boreal owl glared at their captors.
The group was still asking questions and asking questions when the shadow of a large owl passed over them. They all fell quiet as the owl and two smaller ones circled them. He could see the largest owl's gaze peirce through him, especially him. He could tell this owl was certaintly not a Gaurdian of Ga'hoole, or an owl with good intentions at all.
He landed on a large, black, stony perch with a red book in front of him. It was held by a swirled carving stained with blood. His gaze once again swooped over them, particularly stopping at Amar. "You found a Grass Owl. Impressive. You are all dismissed to an early break. Go get some dinner as a little reward."
The four owls flew off, bumping each other's wings together like they were trying to high fiveach other. The large black owl flapped down to Amar, the other owls backing away. Amar was frozen in fear. He couldn't move away as the large black owl with the silver metal helmet came over to him.
He could hear him breathing as the owl leaned down to his face. "You are a peculiar owl, boy. Most of us have a white face like barn owls with little black on them, but your face is all black. Like mine." The owl took of his helmet to reveal his face as black as the rest of his body. His eyes were the same blood red color of the blood on his pure black battle claws.
Amar flinched as one of the large owl's black battle claws talons stroked gently across his face. "Don't fool me boy. You could only have a face as black as mine if you were related to me." He scowled.
"W-What do you m-mean?" He asked, realizing the horrible truth. He knew what this meant.
"You are my son."
