Riyu paced around his nest worriedly. They were going to try and kill the Guardians! Of course they did, though. They were smart enough to know about them. Everyone in the owl kingdoms knew about them.
The glare of the setting sun shone through glass windows painted a deep red and green, with light blues and whites. It would have made a beautiful sight if not for the current situation.
Silhouettes of marching owls slowly moved across the ground beneath him. He could faintly detect the glare of flecks being carried as a certain group marched past. Those ones must be from the Pelletorium.
Those owls were the ones he needed to follow. Spreading his wings, he was about to take off when he was stopped by Suliv. "Good evening, Shadow Prince. Your mother has requested your appearance at the battle claws station." The owl bowed as he spoke.
"Well, then tell her I won't be there. I'm going to go see what these flecks really are." He took off as the young moon blinked owls disappeared around a dark corner.
He didn't notice that Suliv was glaring at him as he flew away. Glaring because he was suspicious about Riyu.
Meanwhile, Riyu landed beside the young owls. What he saw was terrifying.
A large store of flecks were being taken to a large contraption. It was glowing a faint blue, but wasn't like the movie. It was instead like the books, but that didn't mean anything. They were still dangerous.
Suddenly Purge burst inside, scowling. "Traitor! I knew Suliv had right suspicions!" The young owls shrieked and scattered away, leaving Purge and Riyu alone.
Riyu dodged up as Purge flew at him. Purge landed right in front of the flecks. Riyu saw his opportunity. He lunged at an extremely loose rock. With his talons, he threw it off and onto Purge's wing.
Purge shrieked in pain and there was a loud cracking noise as the rock hit his wing. Riyu then knocked over a large store of flecks, letting them hit Purge.
Not wanting to stay for the outcome, Riyu rushed out and started powering his way to the opening at the top. The bright moon shone in the dim night sky. He could tell it was nearly midnight.
Suddenly he felt sharp metal talons tug on his right leg. Glancing back, he saw an ural owl with sharp black battle claws tugging him down. They had a mangled face with one blind eye and he could tell by the way they were clumsy with their battle claws that they had lost a few talons.
He scratched at their wing, sending them down to the ground. He could hear furious wingbeats and he knew the time was right to get out.
He powered his way upwards and soared out. He was lucky that his parents had told him how to fly. It was surprisingly easy after reading so many books about owls flying.
As he reached the top of the canyons, the sounds of wingbeats grew dimmer and dimmer until he was left in silence, only broke by the sound of the wind.
