Blue set his dish in the sink, grinning at Horror, who smiled back. "You ate good today."
"Good. I tried."
"You're getting better."
"I'd better be." Blue sighed. 'I don't want to burdon you guys anymore. I'm no fun sick."
"You're plenty fun. Gives us an excuse to take care of someone."
They both laughed, and Horror handed Blue another dish to clean. They were quiet for a minute.
"You know you can't go back, right?"
Blue sighed. "Yeah. I know. I'm gonna ask Nightmare how long I'm really allowed to stay. Then I'll hop around, see who'll take me. Maybe Geno will let me stay in the save screen. Lord knows he needs a friend."
"I want you to stay." Horror huffed. "We all want you to stay. If Night says no, we can make him change his mind."
"Why would you threaten your boss like that?" Blue laughed. "Be careful, he might hear."
"Night'd never hurt us. Yell, maybe, but only if he's really stressed." Horror smiled. "He's nice, for a god of darkness and negativity."
Blue chuckled. "Fair enough."
As they finished the dishes, Cross came sidling up. "You sure you're ready to train?"
"Yeah." Blue grinned. "Let's go!"
Cross smiled, and the two headed back to the training room.
"We're going to start off simple. Pretend you've basically never fought before. Take things easy and slow." Cross set down a small bag. "I've got water and snacks in here if you need them. If I say you have to rest, rest. Alright?"
"I've got this, don't worry." Blue stretched his arms above his head, grinning. "What'll we do first?"
"Hit me, I'll block. When I think it's good enough, we'll switch."
Blue grinned, getting into position. Cross readied himself. "Whenever you're ready."
Blue paused for a moment, recalling the position and placement of his hands. If he wanted to knock Cross off balance, he needed to aim for the shoulder. If he hit hard enough, he might even knock Cross over. He breathed deeply, and swung his fist, and Cross easily blocked with one arm.
"Good. Again."
Good. Not good emough. Try again. Failure. Blue blinked to rid himself of the unwanted thoughts and swung again. Again, Cross blocked with no obvious strain. "Aim somewhere different. Don't be predictable."
Predictable. Worthless. Blue straightened up. He had to be better.
Fifteen minutes later, Blue hadn't landed a single hit. He was worthless.
And that made him angry.
"Alright, maybe..." Before Cross could finish, Blue kicked him in the ribs, knocking him to the ground. "What the-"
"I am so fucking tired of being useless!" Blue rushed forward as Cross got back up, hitting him in the stomach and knocking him over again. Summoning a bone, Blue kneeled over Cross, pressing it to his throat. "I'm not fucking useless!"
"Blue-" Cross struggled, looking up at him.
"I am not just another Underswap version, I am not replaceable!"
"Blue, you're scaring me!"
Blue froze, a tear finally escaping his eyesocket and running down his cheek. He let Cross go, sitting back so he could breathe. "I-I'm so sorry..."
Cross gasped, reaching up to rub his neck. "Are you okay? What's going on?"
"I...I'm sorry. I just...I don't want to talk about it."
"You don't have to. It's okay. You're okay." Cross laughed. "Tell you what, you fight good when you're angry. That was a hell of a kick."
"Sorry."
"Stop saying that." Cross chuckled. "Mind getting off me?"
Blue stood up quickly, and Cross could have sworn he saw a light blue blush on his features for a few moments. Blue stuck out his hand, and Cross took it, letting himself be pulled up. "Maybe...no more training for today. I don't want to snap again."
"Alright. But you're taking me to the kitchen and getting me an ice pack."
"Deal."
