"Clark, where are you at with the story regarding the missing child?", asked Perry, impatiently. "I'm almost finished sir, just give me a few more hours and I'll be done", said Clark. "Well make it quick, because we don't want any outsiders beating us to the job", said Perry. Clark Kent went from being an orphan, to being adapted by a family in Smallville, to moving into Metropolis, to eventually working and getting a job at the Daily Planet. He had been working there for five years now, and he still felt as though he was as fresh and new as ever. Perry constantly kept nagging him about finishing on time, which made Clark sometimes never go to bed. Jimmy was always in his head, about some sport-related topic and Lois was, well, keeping a good distance from him. In fact, they hardly ever spoke at all. "How are you Lois?", Clark would ask her sometimes, to which she would reply by just walking away.

Clark knew that dealing with women wouldn't be easy, but this was on a whole other level. It's as if she didn't even know he existed. His first day meeting her, was nothing but a dream to her. That's what Clark thought at least. The others just kept telling him, "That's what she does, she's always so focused on her work". Even Perry told Clark once to just leave her be. Lois was born to couple of Samuel and Ella Lane. Since they both lived on a farm, far away from Metropolis, it made it very difficult for her to ever see her parents. This made her very depressed and lonely at times. Even her one and only sister, known as Lucy Lane, hardly spent time with her, as she was always out flying, due to the nature of her profession being an Airline Stewardess. Lois never brought up her time on the farm, her parents, her sister or even her time at home. At work, it was just work she cared about.

Clark realised that if he was going to continue to work at the Planet, he needed to make friends to help in case things got tough. It had been five years, with just Jimmy backing him up, and that definitely wasn't enough. "Lois, Clark said to her, standing in front of her small office, please, talk to me". Lois just ignored him, and kept typing on her computer. "Please Lois, whatever you think of me, just forget it. I only want to be friendly, that's all, he said to her, softly, at least let me know, why you keep ignoring me. Is work really that important to you?". She stopped typing and faced him. She sighed and said, "You don't understand. I'm alone, and I need money. I chose to be here, and I'm not leaving. Now, if you don't mind, I'd prefer to work in alone, and in peace". "Actually, I do mind, said Clark, you see, it's not just me you're ignoring, it's everyone else". "That's because they know what it's like to be here. What it takes, to be here. You Clark, you have no idea, cause from the way I see it, it's been nothing but hell for you here, right?".

Clark didn't say nothing. He just stared at her and gave her a serious look. "Oh c'mon, you think I'm intimidated by you?, she said, I've seen way worst things out on the streets than in here Clark". "Lois, that's enough, said Perry, walking up to them, get back to work. Clark, I told you, leave her alone". Clark walked away, and Lois stared at him while he was doing so. Perry faced Lois and sighed. He then walked back to his office and continued with what he was doing before. Jimmy had been watching the whole thing and felt bad for all of them. He knew that all Perry wanted was for everyone to get along. He knew that all Clark wanted was to talk to Lois. And he knew that all Lois wanted was to work without any distractions. Jimmy couldn't do anything to resolve any of those three things. He just had to wait patiently for a positive result to come out. He walked back to his desk and sat down. "Oh boy, when will the world ever be happy?", he said to himself.

A few weeks after the small interaction between him and Lois, he got a knock on the door. He opened it and saw Lisa smiling at him, as she always did when he was with her. "Hi Clark, how are you today?", she asked him. "Fine, he said to her, what brings over?". "Oh nothing, I just got bored and decided to come and visit you". Clark had kept his distance with Lisa, as he detected some sexual tension that she was conveying. During the five years of Clark's time in Metropolis, Lisa could not stop thinking about him. Crazy fantasies started popping in her head. When she first met him, he was twenty and she was twenty-one, but now it was different. He was twenty-five and she was twenty-six. For her, that was the perfect age for anything to happen between them. Clark entered in his room, with Lisa closely behind him. He closed the door and faced the red-haired girl.
