"C'mon Clark, pick up the phone", said Martha, wondering why her son hadn't been answering her answers recently. The phone kept buzzing, but still no answer. Martha hanged up the phone and started to cry. She was worried that her son had done something terrible to himself. After the incident, at the apartment, Clark had to separate himself from the people he cared about, to finding out his true purpose on being on Earth. Clark immediately left after killing Lisa. He couldn't afford to do any more damage to Metropolis. The city had taken care of him, now, it was his turn to take care of it. He took a trip away from civilization and started hiking across USA. Where he was going, what he was looking for, even he didn't know. Clark knew that this exile of his was the best for controlling powers and using them properly. Five years had passed since the killings of the thugs and Lisa, and Clark was still the same broken alien.
He found no girl to hook-up with, no friend to talk about his struggles with, and no job to keep his mind occupied, rather than focusing on his purpose on Earth. All this walking and thinking made Clark sometimes walk around in circles, making him think to himself that he might have actually lost it. Then, after a long desperate journey, the answers he had been searching for was revealed. Clark had found a cave out in Alaska, and noticed something out of the ordinary. He slowly walked towards the cave and found that the entrance had a unique-looking door blocking the entrance. Clark was just about to touch the door, when it suddenly opened by itself. He slowly walked inside and found lights start to light up his path and the entire cave as well. He looked around and noticed strange writings and encryptions in a very unusual and yet somehow, unearthly language.
"Hello, Kal-El", said a voice. "Who are you? Where are you?", he called out. "I am guide to your past Kal-El", said the voice, I've been here since your arrival on Earth". "Why do you call me Kal-El?", Clark asked, curiously. "That was the name given to you by your parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van", said the voice. "Where am I from?", asked Clark. "You are from Krypton, a planet that was known to be quite peaceful, until General Zod took over and begin his conquest for world domination", said the voice. "What happened to my home, my people, my parents?", asked Clark. "I'm sorry Kal-El, but sadly, Krypton was destroyed, due to a red sun hitting the planet", said the voice. Clark felt sad, but realised, the past was the past, and there was nothing he could do to change it. "How did you get here?", he asked. "I arrived shortly after your arrival, said the voice, and I choose this spot, because it was the safest".
Clark decided to ask the question that he been searching the answer for, his whole life. "Why am I here, on Earth?", he asked. "Your purpose is to protect the people and give them hope Kal-El, said the voice, if not, you're no different to the humans". "But why Earth?", Clark asked. "That is something that even I do not know, said the voice, but I'm sure Jor-El had his reasons for choosing this planet". "When you say give them hope, what does that mean?", asked Clark. "It means standing for what's right, and wearing your symbol with honour", said the voice. "But I don't want all that, said Clark, why can't I just do the right thing?". "Your father wore a symbol which represented what Krypton stood for, said the voice, I suggest you do the same". A box appeared in front of Clark. He look at the box, as it opened itself. A red cape was visible. "A cape?", he called out. He took out the cape found a blue costume, with an insignia on it.
"You got to be kidding me, I'm supposed to wear this around people?", Clark asked. "If you want to inspire hope, then yes, you must wear it", said the voice. Clark picked up the costume and looked at the insignia, which was a large S coloured in red with a yellow background. "Why the S?, he said, none of my names have S in them". "The S stands for hope, that's symbol of your father, and his people", said the voice. Clark walked away from the box and it disappeared in seconds. "Is there anything else I should know?", he asked. "Well, there is one thing", said the voice. Clark stepped out of the cave facing the Alaskan view. He was wearing his cape and his costume. No one was there to even look at him. He was a completely different being. He thought about what the voice had told him and was ready to put his last ability to the test. He faced the sky and said, "Ok Clark, you got this".
