"whos set of green wheels is that out there daddy?" Elvis asked looking out the window in the kitchen at my car
"it's Devin's, how have you not noticed it in the last 5 months?" Red laughed
"that belongs to Devin?" he questioned giving me a strange look as I drank my coffee
"sure does... why?" I asked nervous...
"i don't think i've ever seen anything like it, it's a mustang ain't it?" he asked as he started out the door
"yeah.." I followed behind him as we walked towards the driveway coffee in hand, him curious... me nervous, the last thing I wanted to do was explain how or why I drove a car from 1968 in 1960
"why does it look so different then the other mustangs?" he asked sipping his coffee.
"it's newer..."
"but I was just looking at new mustangs and they didn't look like this. What year is it?" he asked opening the door.
"it's a 1968" I mumbled looking out the driveway
"a 68?" he asked as he sat in it.
"a 1968.." I mumbled once more as I walked over and leaned against the hood
"how did you get a 1968 car 8 years early" he asked sticking his head out the door
"it's a long story.. and if I told it to you, you'd think i'd lost my mind" I shook my head slightly
"try me" he answered
"go for a drive?" I suggested
"why not.. lets take these in and grab your keys" he getting out and putting his hand on the small of my back to guide me.
walking in the kitchen we put our cups in the sink and I went to grab my keys from my bag in the hallway closet.
"where are you two off to?" vernon asked as I walked back in the kitchen
"me and my gal are going for a drive daddy" elvis answered with a grin as he took my hand and led me back out the door
"your gal?" I asked as we walked out to my car, him holding his hand out for my keys as he led me to the passenger side
"sure! you've been my gal since I first laid eyes on ya" he grinned as he opened the door and helped me inside before closing it and jogging back to the drivers side.
I wasn't even sure what to say so I didn't say anything as he got in and started the car.
"can you drive a manual?" I asked
"of course, I learned on a manual" he grinned as he backed out of my parking space and drove down the driveway.
"now how about you tell me how you got a car that hasn't even been built yet?" he asked as he drove towards the gates.
"it's crazy and honestly I don't even know how it's possible... I don't have the answers but I know i'm here for a reason and that's enough for me... besides I hated my life in Las vegas in 2023" I said resting my head up with my arm on the door with the window down.
"2023? thats 60 years from now.. hows that possible? your from Las Vegas?" he asked glancing at me as he drove toward the circle G ranch property.
"60 years in the future.. all I know is I hit my head on a lighting fixture in my house in las vegas and when I woke up I was in the hospital a little ways from graceland... 60 years in the past" I explained
"don't you want to go back to your time to your husband and family? career?" he asked
"thats a complicated question.. my time is okay but the world is an absolute mess... i'm not married, I live alone in a big house over looking the vegas strip, my career is in a set still because my manager has indebted me to the casinos in vegas and i'm lucky if I get to see my family twice a year because i'm constantly booked for shows that I hate doing... so other then my family, I really don't have anything to go back to" I sighed explaining
