Sonic woke up the next morning with a bit of energy in him. He was ready to start the next day by running through the jungle, but heard his stomach growl, making him laugh a bit. Food first, then run, Sonic laughed in his head. It was good timing when he placed on his shoes and gloves, since Lilac had already made breakfast.
She gave Sonic a headpat and served him breakfast. "Oh, these are good!" he replied after taking a bite from a waffle she cooked. "Thank you. Nearly all of my guests enjoy them," she replied. Sonic nodded with some waffle still in his mouth. The taste of syrup oozed in his mouth. It had been forever since he last had waffles or anything cooked from Tails and Annabelle. Afterwards, he cleaned his plate(Sonic didn't want to upset Lilac and all)and headed out. She told him to be back before sunset.
The hedgehog stayed alert at all costs while going through the town for his run. The shoes he wore being sung to his feet, which was a good thing from where they had been bare for a few hours. Sonic didn't hear no agents, the sounds of beating wings, or the revs of engines from robots or rocket shoes. GUN wasn't around, but Sonic knew that they were still out there, looking for him. I wonder what they're planning. The first onslaught caught me off guard, but I'll be ready for this one, Sonic's brain rambled. Many told Sonic hello, and they weren't even scared of him to his surprise. Not after what the Werehog- no. What HE did back in Shamar.
Finally, he arrived at the edge of the forest, with the beach being connected to it. As much as Sonic didn't like water and to the fact that he'd drown, he's always dip his feet in every once in awhile. Sonic decided to do that today. In the bag he had stored on his back were some sandals that Lilac and packed for him in case he wanted to walk and take a break from running. Sonic plopped down onto a nearby beach chair and changed before placing his bag down on the chair and looking out over the waters. The fresh sea air soothed his nose as his own quills whipped in the wind. He sighed and looked at the clear blue waters. Sonic was hoping he could see Tails and Annabelle over the horizon, but just shook the daydream off of him.
Sucking it up, Sonic stepped in the water to only where the water lapped over his feet. It felt very calming to the fact that Sonic wanted to fall asleep to the sound of the waves as they lapped at his feet. "Where are you guys?" Sonic told the horizon. "Are you still out there looking for me? I don't want to be like this anymore." He could feel that additional substance inside him, for as he flipped it over, a vein bulged, causing him to nearly collapse. It was a good thing Sonic caught himself, or he would of face planted in the waters.
About ten minutes later he dried his feet and changed back into his normal shoes before running across the forest again, his mind still on Tails and Annabelle. He was still alert as he ran. Still, no sirens, helicopters, wing beats, nothing. It was all quiet. Maybe a bit too quiet, but Sonic enjoyed the silence and hearing nature all around him. Sonic got back to Lilac's house a bit more earlier than expected, which shocked her. She asked him how it went, and Sonic said that it was all good and went as normal. "That's great," she said. "I'm interested on where you've been after the attack. Do you remember?" Sonic titled his head, and then said, "Yeah, I sure do. I've had the best life in Shamar before the warehouse incident."
When he told her everything, Lilac was intrigued in the story. She liked hearing about Sonic's runs as well as him exploring some ruins making him think of Knuckles, who happened to be a treasure hunter. "I've heard about your friends," she told Sonic. "They are very nice," Sonic nodded in agreement, making her laugh. When the sun set and it was dark, Sonic was in his spare room watching the news. Apparently Eggman was up to something, but with the blurred footage, he couldn't tell what it was. It changed again to the anniversary of the attack, which gave his shivers when he saw his new mutated form. If gave him a better chance to see it. I'm a monster..... Sonic thought sadly. He couldn't even sleep that night, but did after a few sobs.

A new day approached, and Sonic first heard a plane engine rev outside, causing him to spring out of bed and put his gloves and shoes on. He had a quick breakfast from Lilac before heading out. He stood in the doorway as soon as recognized what landed in the port: the Tornado. He gasped in happiness when he saw Tails and Annabelle step from it. "Sonic should be around here. I mean, this is where his signal led to," Tails told his sister as they walked around the town. The two passed by Sonic, not recognizing him. Probably because of his scars.
Lilac came to the doorway. "Friends of yours?" she asked. "Yeah! I told you about them!" Sonic chimed. Then, Lilac said, "Go tell them hello. I'll be watching!" she said it with a smile. Sonic winked at her before leaving the house as Lilac waved to Sonic goodbye. Annabelle looked at Tails in a confused manner. "Where is he?" she told her brother, who also shook his head.
"Looking for me?" Sonic asked from behind. The two spun to see Sonic, who smiled. The foxes smiled happily as they group hugged Sonic. Even he was crying happily. When Tails let go of Sonic, Annabelle was still hugging him. "Sonic...." she breathed happily. "Annie....." Sonic breathed back. He had finally found his friends. Things were going to be ok. For sure.
