"Hey Richie, what did the doctor say?" I asked my older brother as he walked into my hospital room.

"I'm sorry, Becky." He hugged me tightly, tears streaming down his face.

"What's wrong?" I tried to put on a brave smile, but my heart was racing with fear.

I was nervous too. I'm just 21 years old, and I still have so many dreams to pursue. There are countless things I want to experience in this life. I don't want to let go just yet.

"You have stage 4 mesothelioma."

My entire world shattered as I heard those words. Stage 4 mesothelioma cancer. It affects the mesothelial cells that cover most of our internal organs. And the worst part is, I only have 12 months or less to live if I choose to undergo therapy.

"Okay. I still have a few months to live, and I'm determined to make the most of it," I said, mustering a smile.

Richie let go of me and looked at me with confusion. He furrowed his eyebrows, his grip on my hands tightening.

"No, you're going to have chemotherapy. You can beat this. We'll travel together, bring Bon, and..." I interrupted Richie by placing my finger on his lips.

"Even with the therapy, Richie, I'll still pass away. I'll just lose my hair during the process. You know how much I love this hair of mine," I chuckled.

Honestly, I want to live longer. I want to savor every moment of life, but this type and stage of cancer offer no chance of survival. Chemotherapy may give me more time, but in the end, I will still succumb to it.

"Listen, Richie." I held his hands, but he continued to cry like a baby. I smiled at him and gently stroked his cheek with my other hand. "I've made up my mind. I'm going to live my life to the fullest, starting today."
