I immediately start running towards the axe. I lift it above my head and smash it back down onto the door a few times. Once the way is clear, I look over to Mono. He's still slowly scooting away from the Thin man. Not knowing what else to do, I run over to him and drag him away with me.
We go through the, now broken, door and start climbing some planks that are blocking a doorframe. As I'm climbing, I hear footsteps coming from behind us. I don't need to look back to know who it is. As the footsteps get closer, I feel like everything I do is slower than it should be.
Finally, I make it over the boarded planks and jump to the other side. Everything is back to normal, luckily. Beside me, Mono jumps down as well. I look back to the planks we climbed over and still see the Thin man standing behind them. He stands there for a moment longer before he vanishes.
"Are you oka-" I was about to ask Mono, but then I see that he is already running to the next area. Normally, I would complain, but I just keep my mouth shut and follow him. Eventually, reach an area that we need to crawl through. I get down on all fours and inch forward. Looking up, I notice that we are actually under the floorboards. If only there was an iron skewer around here, so I could jab it up at anyone who walks by.
As me and Mono keep crawling forward, I notice that there is a hole in the floorboards. It made me feel a tad uncomfy...and turns out I had every right to be. The Thin man appears out of nowhere and bends down to look into the hole. Me and Mono stop moving, hoping that we are out of sight. The Thin man keeps looking around, and I could have sworn we locked eyes for a moment.
Eventually, he gets up and he disappears once more. What was that about? I look over to Mono, and he has his hands on his head, gripping his bag tightly. "...Mono? He's gone, you know. We're safe." I try to comfort him...but probably failed.
Mono puts his hands back down and stares at nothing in particular. "We're never safe. All we do is hide and try not to die." After a sigh, he continues. "I'm just so tired of this. Why can't I just fight back? Why, why, why?" He then looks at me. "I just wanted us three to be friends...but Six doesn't like me for some reason...and you and me are always running and hiding from some monster. It's just not fair."
I was stunned into silence. I knew I should say something, but nothing came out when I tried. He speaks up again. "S-Sorry. I really shouldn't worry you about this. Let's just...keep going, okay?" Mono motions for me to keep crawling. After a bit, we get out of the floorboards and enter an open door. The rain hasn't stopped and Mono's bag is soaked.
We arrive into a room with a stool in the corner. Beside it lay a long, dark hallway. It gives me bad vibes. There's also a window in front of us that's too high up to reach. Obviously, the stool in the corner is needed here. I still feel bad for not saying anything to Mono, so I try to speak up. "Hey...Mono? We are friends, and you can fight back. We'll get through this." He looks over to me. "I..I know we're friends, but fighting back? That's..." He looks deep in thought for a moment.
"We can-" Before I can continue my speech, the door in the hallway slowly opens. There, standing behind the doorway, stood the Thin man. After a moment, he starts slowly walking towards us. I run to the stool in the corner, and start dragging it towards the window. This starts becoming increasingly difficult the closer the Thin man gets because everything keeps going slower.
Mono jumps up on the stool and tries to pull off some planks that are boarding it. I stand on the stool and head for the window as well. Together, we pull the plank off with a snap. Mono heads through the window first, and I start following. All of a sudden, the Thin man teleported directly behind me. However, he made no moves to capture me. I risk a glance behind me, and he just looks at me before disappearing.
Guess I'll live to see another day. Hopefully.
