Previously...

A few, stupid rumors popped up that Alice and Garrett were dating behind Jasper's back, but Alice took it to Twitter and said that it's so not true, that she and Garrett were just really good friends, and she was in love with Jasper. Jasper didn't believe those rumors at all, which was good. I didn't think I'd be able to see our family break apart again.

Jasper's debut country album released later in September, with guest vocals from me on a love song.

We would have done a music video, but Edward and I were writing a new record in Seattle, so as much as we would have liked, it couldn't happen.

"Ho Hey", the song we'd written for Garrett and Alice, was rerecorded for Jasper's record, and released as a second single. They did make a music video for that.

Jake got hold of my number and told me he was writing his own EP. He wanted me to sing a duet with him. I couldn't speak for a good 5 minutes. How did he get my number? Why now? Did someone give him my number? Edward was going to hate this. He wouldn't get too upset, but I knew he wouldn't like this at all.

I told Jake I'd think about it and call him back, then told Carlisle everything. He wasn't happy, to say the least. But he told me to do what I thought was right. I still wasn't sure.

I drove over to Edward's house, greeted by his family, and walked up the stairs to his room. I smiled when I heard his keyboards playing. They stopped for a second, then started up again. I tentatively opened the door.

He looked up from writing and smiled. He walked around the keyboard and took my hands.

"Hi," he smiled.

"Hi," I breathed, and he leaned down to kiss me. I pushed away a bit to look into his eyes.

"What's wrong?" he frowned a bit.

"I have to tell you something." I sighed, and pulled him to sit on his bed. "Ok, you have to promise not to freak out."

"When have I ever freaked out?" he winked.

"Really?" I rolled my eyes, but got serious, "But seriously, don't. It's about Jake."

His smile slid from his face. I could tell he had a struggle fighting inside of him, but he didn't freak out. He squeezed and played with my hands.

"What about Jake?" he asked stiffly, so quietly that I had to strain to hear him.

"Um, he, somehow, found my number and called to ask me to duet with him on a song he wrote. For an EP he's working on."

"How did he find you?"

"We don't know."

"We?"

"Carlisle knows."

He nodded. Still no freak out. "So, what are you going to do? It's been a while since we've seen him."

"Five years."

He nodded again, and lay his elbows on his knees.

"You mad?" I lay my head on his shoulder. I felt his head turn and kiss my hair.

"Not mad, just confused. Like, why now?"

I shrugged. "Don't know. Maybe he'll tell when I get there."

"You're going to do it?"

"Maybe. Just to clear the air."

"Then, I'll come with you. I'm not leaving you alone with him ever again."

I nodded, and kissed his hair. "My overprotective boyfriend." I smiled, and his body shook from his snicker.

"I'm not over protective, just care about you. And love you." I giggled as we lay down on the bed together.

I snuggled closer towards him. "I love you, too. So much." I smiled at my promise ring.

Edward and I held hands and walked to the studio in Seattle together later that week. I was feeling a little antsy and Edward could feel it, too. He held me closer and wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

"We can turn around, if you want." He whispered.

I shook my head. "No, I want to do this."

He sighed and, with his arm still around me, walked in.
