CHAPTER 1:

The Middle

There are quick loud footsteps coming from the floor above as Noah finishes preparing breakfast, and he knows the girl is late, again. Much to his demise, his granddaughter turned out to take all of her father's bad qualities. Spending the night searching weird things on the internet instead of sleeping being one of them. Last night he was pretty sure she was searching what a Wendigo is. Something he has Chris Argent to thank for, since he did gift her the famous bestiary on her thirteenth birthday.

"Hey, Sheriff!" She shouts, her bag thrown on the floor as she leans over the counters. Her eyes looking up at him in apology already. "No need to say it,"

"But I still should, right?"

The brunette shrugs. "No time, I gotta..."

"Oh, there's time, Ali." Noah assures, setting the plate in front of her with a smile. "If there's really no need for me to say anything, then you must know there's no skipping breakfast."

"But I'll be late!"

"I'll take you, don't worry kiddo." He says, his hand tapping the counter in a hurry manner. She has a defeated look on her face but he's just proud of himself, he knows Alice hates it when he drops her off at school. Says getting out of a police car isn't really the best way to make friends. "Next time maybe you should try getting up as soon as I wake you, huh?"

"Sure," She mutters, her teeth biting into the bread.

Sheriff Stilinski pulls his own plate closer, a cocky smile dancing on his face while he watches his granddaughter bickering with her own food.

Oh, sometimes it's tiring... Frustrating even, having to raise a teenage spitting image of Stiles all over again. Other times, most times, it's comforting. Alice fills in all the empty spaces his son left behind. Sometimes he gets home, hears yelling from the living room, and it's like nothing changed, he swears its Stiles and Scott's voices he hears. It takes a couple of minutes to notice that it's really just Ali and Eli.

Oh, Eli. Alice rolls her eyes at the sight of the boy when her grandfather stops the car. The Hale is already chucking with himself, and she looks over to Noah.

"This is the last time you're bringing me to school,"

"I can pick Eli up too next time if you would prefer." He shrugs.

"I would rather not." Ali scoffs, the idea tormenting her. She still kisses the man's cheek, and gives him a small smile before exiting the police car.

Eli quickly starts approaching the brunette. A huge mocking smile on his lips. "Good morning, boot!"

"God, you're so funny, Hale." She mutters, brushing past him abruptly. His balance suffering a little, but Eli's quick to follow her steps.
