We got to Chrissie’s at about 5, everybody was already there. Chrissie’s house was huge; she was famous for her parties. The music was pounding in my ears. There were so many people that I suddenly felt self-conscious in my strapless knew length dark blue dress. I adored the dress, it would have been beautiful on anyone else, but on me, it felt wrong. Like I was too exposed, which I guess I was.
I felt like running into the kitchen, but was stopped by someone grabbing my arm and dragging me to the dance floor.
“Dance for god’s sake.” Chrissie said. She grabbed my arms and forced me to sway. After some time I realized I was doing it myself. I guess it was ok. Maybe it was time to loosen up and finally enjoy myself.
“So, have you seen him yet?” she said nonchalantly.
“Who?” I said, not really paying attention to what she was talking about.
“Adam, of course.” I stopped dancing and tried to mimic her relaxed look.
“Why would I have?” She was quiet for a moment and just stared at me. By the look on her face I knew I was going to regret asking her.
“God, there’s definitely something going on between you two.” Is there? Apart from a few scandalous kisses nothing had happened or would ever have happened.
“Whatever, I need a drink.” I said as I hurried to the kitchen.
I leaned against the counter and began to sip my drink. He leaned against the counter next to me. I looked down and we stayed in an uncomfortable decision. We stayed there for a long time, both of us unwilling to break the silence. I looked up for a second and took a deep breath. This was my only chance to get what I really wanted. I had to act now or risk losing something that my heart desired.
“About today I-” He cut me off.
“It was nothing; I get it we were just acting.” I hunched my shoulders in defeat.
“I got ahead of myself; it won’t happen again.” I did not expect that from Adam, he seemed so sure of himself. Apologizing didn’t seem like his style. For some reason it made me like him more.
“Oh… I sort of did want it to happen again.” I thought, not realizing that I had spoken out loud. As my cheeks reddened, his eyes lit up.
“Oh, how about tomorrow after work.” He replied cheerfully. I couldn’t trust my own voice so I nodded.
After the part I stayed round Chrissie’s. We mostly watched TV and gossiped. We were watching a movie about… to be fair I didn’t know what it was about. I was watching it but I wasn’t really. A girl walked past the screen.
“Hey sis, I’m going to be back soon.” She moved away quickly, but not quick enough. She had red hair. It was so familiar… Sally! It was Sally? From my dream? I thought she was made-up too. I pinched myself, it hurt. Apparently she wasn’t made up. I didn’t know how to react so I froze. I couldn’t help but be cautious, the last time I had seen Sally she had died in an alley. I didn’t know what to do, so I went for the same option and did nothing. Chrissie nudged me and I hurried to change the subject.

The next morning I went home to get clothes. Once I got to work I had a mini heart attack when I saw my reflection outside of the changing room. Everything about me suddenly looked wrong. My hair: too flat. My dress: trying too hard. My shoes: trying too little. I turned to leave and almost bumped head first into Adam. He held my arm to steady me. Once again the electricity pulsed against my skin.
