When Matt returns, you're already fast asleep, so he tries to be as quiet as possible. You're an extremely light sleeper, something that remains instilled in you. The moment he sets foot into the room, you wake up.
"You're back," you mumble as you sit up to look at him. He takes his black mask off, sits at the end of the bed, and pinches the bridge of his nose. "There's no sign of her anywhere," he says hushedly, and you move closer to him.
"We'll find her," you reply assuringly and hold his hand. He intertwines his fingers with yours and contemplates kissing the back of your hand before he lets go and stands up. You get up and walk over to him, not feeling much better. But you have an idea, you just need to get back to your apartment.
Though you can barely see him in the dark, you can feel his familiar muscular frame underneath his shirt. You're glad to see him return relatively unscathed for once, bar all of his prior injuries.
Matt's jaw clenches as your hand travels over his chest towards his face. And he can't help but lean into your touch as your other one cups his jaw. Your thumb gently grazes over his slight stubble, such a small action, yet it drives him wild. He reluctantly pulls away, before muttering, "You need to rest."
"I don't have time to rest," you whisper, pulling him into a slow, sensual kiss, which he can't help but reciprocate. Every single one of his senses is taken over by; your scent, the feeling of your hand running through his hair, the taste of your lips, the very sound of your breath.
You hesitantly draw away from him, his lips chasing yours as you do before he seems to recollect his thoughts. "We have to go. Right now."
"What do you mean?" he asks, his breathing slightly quickened. "I think I know where to find her, but we're going to need a plan and some serious backup. I was hoping you knew people."
"I know a few, but how dangerous is this going to be? Let's be honest, you're in no shape for fighting."
"I'll have my suit this time, I'll be fine. But it's not going to be an easy rescue by any means."
Matt's concerns aren't at all eased, as he runs his hand through his hair before saying, "What if we're too late?"
"I hate to say it, but we're already too late if they wanted to kill her. They would have done it by now. It's going to take us around half a day to get there. I'll round up my people, you round up yours, and I'll deal with the issue of us getting there."
Matt inhales deeply, rubbing his temple. "I have a bad feeling about all of this."
"I'd be worried if you didn't," you reply, and Matt scoffs lightly. "I'm serious. I don't think you should be coming."
"You getting soft on me Murdock?" you say teasingly, a slight smirk finding its way to your face. Matt tsks, before responding, "Yeah, I guess I am. Is that such a bad thing?"
"Never said it was," you say with a smile, before returning to a more sombre tone, "Matt-"
"What is it?" he asks, his voice brimming with concern. Voicing your feelings has never been your strong suit, so you choose your words wisely. "I can't lose you either, so be careful on this one, okay? Please." Matt nods, trying to put your mind at ease, "I will."
The two of you stand in silence for a moment, both seeming to fully grasp the weight of the situation. "Claire said you needed a few days of rest, you've had less than three hours."
"It's enough for now. I've got something at my place that I can take. Start making some calls."
