One year later
It was the day before your wedding. It felt like forever to finally get here, and you couldn't wait for the morning to come. But, first, you and Ben had another matter you had to deal with.
You were currently leaning on the bath, while Ben was holding Amelia - or Millie, as he now called her - in his arms, with her head resting on his shoulder. He was walking between the hallway and bathroom to try and get her to stop crying, as he gently rocked her. "It's ok, Mills." He said softly as he kissed the top of her head. "What are you crying for, hey?" He looked down at her, as she continued crying into him. "Nothing seems to be working." He says to you as he briefly steps back into the bathroom.
"I know. She's tired." You reply. "But she's got herself too worked up to go to sleep." That was one of the things that confused you about babies. Why didn't they just go to sleep when they were tired?
"I'll try putting her down again in a second." Ben says as he continues to rock her, as he walks up and down the hallway again. "Is it time?" He calls out.
You breathe out and look at your watch, before letting him know that it was.
"What does it say?" Ben asks as he reappears in the bathroom, with Amelia still sobbing into his shoulder.
You hesitantly move over to the bathroom sink, as you look down. "It's positive." You gulp, as you look at him, then bite your lip anxiously.
"That's excellent news, darling!" He beams excitedly. "Millie, you're going to be a big sister!" He says as he moves his head down to her. She didn't really understand what he was saying, but she cried harder anyway. Causing you to laugh and Ben to sigh in frustration. "Well, Mills may not be, but, I am very happy." He laughs, then walks over to you and places a short kiss on your lips. "You're happy aren't you?" Ben asks, unable to work out your facial expression.
"Yes, just shocked. I need a minute for it to sink in." You smile reassuringly at him. "I didn't think it would happen this quickly." You and Ben decided last month for you to come off the pill and try again. But, you thought it would take you a few months, at least.
"I must have super swimmers." Ben says proudly, as he continues to rock Amelia.
You shake your head and laugh in response, before holding your arms out. "Can mummy hold you for a bit?" You ask Amelia as she continues to cry. Well, it was more of a forced whinge now.
Ben passes Amelia to you, and you hold her on your hip, as she curls into you. You move her hair out of her face as you look down at her. "Mills, stop being silly, baby girl. Lets get you to bed. You have a big day tomorrow." You look up at Ben excitedly as you think about the wedding, and in return he grins widely at you. "I don't know how I'm going to pull myself together when I see you two walk down the aisle. Even picturing it makes my eyes tear up." He chuckles when he proves his point, as his eyes start to water.
"Daddy's soppy isn't he?" You jokingly ask Amelia, then look back at Ben. "I know I'm not going to keep it together when I see you." You smile, then reach on your tip toes to place a soft kiss on his lips. "Right, let's get this one to bed."
An hour later, Amelia was finally settled, and you and Ben were snuggled up on the sofa. "So...another baby?" Ben says with a huge smile on his face, as he rests his cheek on the top of your head, aimlessly playing with your hair. You had your head resting on his shoulder as you look up at him. "Are we insane?"
"Probably." He laughs.
"Oh, that reminds me. I forgot to show you this." You say as you move momentarily out of Bens arms, and reach forward to grab your phone from the coffee table. "Alex showed me this the other day." You continue, as you curl back into him.
