PACK MENTALITY
THE NEW KID IN TOWNA/N: Hey guys. I just wanted to say that the middle of this chapter ended up being lacking. I knew how it started and how it ended, but the middle was stressing me, so I decided to write just a little bit of the party and end it early. I'm almost done with chapter three at least. For this reason, not many characters will be in these next two chapters, but everyone will be in chapter four! I'm having a mental health setback, but by then I should be okay! I'm just really not happy with this chapter in general. I hope you guys can still enjoy it a little bit. ):
"BRIGHTON, CAN WE talk?", Pilar asked hesitantly. She never stepped foot in her sister's room anymore. In fact, she couldn't remember the last time that she had been in Brighton's room. It had to have been before their mother died. She found that to be sad, in a way. There was no more sisterly bonding time. She wasn't even sure if there was any sisterly love left.
"Fine", Brighton sighed, standing up to face her sister. "What do you want?"
Pilar paused, scanning her sister and her outfit. Her black top, made of a soft mesh material, was so sheer that you could see her fancy black bra. The only thing you couldn't see through on the top was her silk collar. The red and white polka dot skirt she was wearing was so short that you could literally see the bottom of her cheeks. "What are you supposed to be?"
Brighton looked at her sister like she was an idiot. "I'm Minnie Mouse, duh", she answered, pointing to the glittering black Minnie Mouse ears that rested in her neatly curled brown ringlets. Pilar couldn't help but to think of the movie Mean Girls. "And you look like a child in that Red Riding Hood outfit. It's a costume party, Pilar. At least try not to embarrass yourself." Pilar couldn't help but to flinch. Definitely Mean Girls.
She pulled her cape closer around herself, as if trying to protect herself. "Dad's never gonna let you out of the house like that."
"He'll never notice. He'll be too busy focusing on his golden girl", Brighton answered dryly, turning back to the mirror and opening up a tube of red lipgloss. "Is this all you wanted? To ask me dumb ass questions?"
Deep down, Brighton was a nice girl. She cared so much about people and animals. That just didn't seem to apply to Pilar these days. So many people assumed she was shallow. In actuality, Brighton was just terrified of the idea that people wouldn't like her. Just one person not liking her would set her over the edge. She was never Scott's favorite, and she'd always tried so hard. And yet there was Pilar, soaking up both their parents' love while Cesar squeezed out was left and there was none left for Brighton. She may not have been her mother's favorite, but at least her mother understood her. And Pilar took that away.
"No, I-" Pilar sighed, scratching her forehead. "I was hoping we could talk, like old times. Things have just been so... different lately. Distant. I just want us to get close again, work things out. I don't even know why you're so angry at me, but if I could understand what you're going through, I know that I can make it right!"
