" Uhm, it's nothing, I got hit in the face with a football at practice"
" Alex, that's not nothing, did you get into a fight with one of the boys there?"
" No, I didn't, it's really nothing Calvert, I handled it"
" Okay" She gave him a concerned smile.
Mara was still worried but she didn't wanna fight with Alex so she just let him in. Jessica noticed the bruise too and said something also. Alex responded with the same thing, that it was nothing and he got hit with the football. Jessica wasn't as worried since it did look like he got hit with a football but she had her suspicions. Alex asked if they could go upstairs to watch "Supernatural or something" and Mara agreed.
Jessica told them to keep the door open 3 inches, just to be funny, but Mara listened anyway. When they got to her room, Mara flopped on her bed and laid down with the remote in her hand. Alex slightly closed the door and then walked over and laid down on top of Mara, putting his head on her chest. She put the remote down and started to play with his hair.
" Rough day?"
" Yeah," Alex said tiredly. " My eye hurts a little"
" Do you need an ice pack or something?" Mara said softly.
" No, I'll be okay, I think I'm gonna take a nap though. By the way, my jersey number is 16"
" Okay," Mara smiled and picked her remote back up and put on a random movie then continued to play with Alex's hair until he fell asleep. Playing with his hair got her relaxed and tired, so she kissed Alex on his head then fixed herself and took a nap with him.
About half an hour later, Jessica knocked on the door to let them know dinner was ready. Mara jumped awake and slightly shook Alex to wake him up. He grumbled a little and playfully tightened his grip on Mara's waist so she wouldn't get up. He smiled when she told him to let her go. He started to tickle her but that just made it easier for her to get away from him.
When she finally got him up, they walked downstairs together holding hands. Mara saw that they were having taco salad so she playfully hit Alex in the stomach and then ran to the table. Alex ran after her and nudged her then sat down. They all talked about their days and Mara explained to Alex what they did while they were watching crime documentaries earlier in the day. Alex remembered that they did that because he was there with them once.
While the girls talked, Alex and Rodger had a conversation of their own. Rodger told him about how it sounds like they are speaking in code when talking about the cases and Alex agreed with him. Then they talked about football a little bit after Rodger asked. He also asked Alex if he actually got hit by a football but Alex avoided the question. After dinner, they all watched Frankenweenie when Mara suggested they should watch it.
She thought about how close they were to Halloween and realized she didn't have a costume. She laughed to herself, thinking that she would go as an inflatable Patrick. Alex doesn't usually trick or treat but she thought about asking him to do a couples costume with her. Mara pinched his arm slightly to get his attention and then whispered to him that they should do a couples costume.
Alex smiled at the idea and suggested that they should go as Victor and Emily from Corpse Bride; since it was their favorite Tim Burton Movie. Mara agreed and after the movie, she asked her mom if they could go to Spirit Halloween the following day to get costumes. Jessica said they could do that, she and Rodger needed costumes also anyway. Alex asked his mom if he could spend the night and after reassuring her he did all his homework, Brianna told him he could stay the night.
Mara and Alex jumped up and down with joy after hearing the good news, then hung out upstairs until they decided to go to bed around 9:30. Mara ran downstairs real quick to say goodnight to her mom. When she got back upstairs she told Alex to wait outside the door while she changed into her PJs. She put her hair into a messy bun and told Alex he could come back in. He noticed that she was wearing one of the shirts she stole from him with some pajama shorts.
