Chapter 8: Friday Night

Friday came pretty fast for the four of them. It blew past like it was nothing. After school, Mara rushed home and made sure she had everything ready. To make sure she wasn't gonna forget anything, she put her makeup on her nightstand, her favorite perfume, and some jewelry on top of her outfit. As she was making sure she had everything her phone went off. It was a group chat text from Alex.

" Everyone ready for tonight?" she read. Everyone replied with 'yup', 'of course', or 'as ready as I'll ever be' (that was George).

Mara quickly texted Alex he was crazy after he put the cheering emoji when everyone responded, then she ran downstairs to do her homework real quick. She told her mom about the double date which got her an 'Oo la la' but she just rolled her eyes playfully. The entire time she was doing her homework, her mind was on Alex and what he would wear to the date. He already returned Rodger's clothes so he wouldn't wear those, and he surely wouldn't wear a Tuxedo, right?

She quickly quieted her thoughts so she could focus on her homework. After Mara was done and it was dinner time, she rushed a little to get through it so she would have enough time to get ready.

" Slow down there, tiger" Her mom commented at one point.

" Sorry" Mara wiped her mouth and then washed off her plate in the sink. She gave herself a good 10 minutes for her stomach to settle down before she started getting ready. She looked at the time and realized it was 5:10, her eyes sorta widened and she hurried upstairs.

First, she looked on Pinterest for styles for her hair. She found a simple wavy hairstyle to do. Then, she put on her dress and jacket. Mara put on some light makeup and hoop earrings. She sprayed her perfume and then ran back downstairs to put her converse on. She's not going as quick as I'm making it sound by the way.

Once she was all ready, it was almost 5:50 and all she had to do now was wait for Alex to come and pick her up. She didn't have to wait long, shortly after Mara sat down with her mom she heard a honk outside. She and her mom walked outside to see Alex waiting with George and Mindy.

" Did somebody order an uber?" Alex said after rolling down his window; he had shades on and George was sitting in the front seat. Alex shooed him to the back once he was done talking. Mara smiled and kissed her mom goodbye then ran down to the car (which was Barney).

She hopped in the car and hugged Alex. Just like she thought he was going to, he was wearing a fancy shirt, jacket, and some nice jeans, basically a tuxedo. But so was George except he had an orange bowtie. She looked around and saw Mindy wearing a sparkly pink dress and white high heels.

" Hey Calvert," George said.

" Hey, only I get to call her that," Alex said jokingly, putting the car in reverse.

Mara laughed. " Hi George"

" So, you guys excited for tonight?" Alex asked the group.

" Definitely," Everyone said.

" Good!" Alex yelled, Everyone laughed.

" Let's get some music going," Mara said, plugging in her aux cord, she knew Alex didn't mind. Without actually looking through anything on Spotify, the song Perfect by One Direction automatically started playing. Almost immediately everyone started singing along. Alex smiled and turned down almost all the windows so everyone could yell the lyrics. Once it got to the chorus everyone sang along:
