This story is not associated with the actual time frame of the story, but I just thought this would be really cute and be a nice fill in till another chapter comes out (since Valentines is near, and we all know we lonely and crave the mop man)
"No!" Someone yelled as they tossed a pair of scissors across the room at the flying butterfly to get him away, who managed to dodge in time.
"Oh, no, that isn't how you show love!" The butterfly whined as he dodged another object being chucked at him by the short yellow man. This butterfly flew into the house to teach the people there about love and Valentine's Day...it was unclear to Y/N if it was near that time of the year due to the days never seeming to change from June 20th.
"Look, we just—don't want to learn about whatever you're talking about is. So, uh—shoo," Red said as he sat on his same green, comfy chair as he was gesturing for the butterfly to get lost by having his hand away from his body in a brushing motion.
"Oh, but it's important to learn all about love to find someone you love! Don't you want to find someone you want to spend eternity with?" The butterfly responded, which seemed to stun Red as he glanced over at Y/N and mumbled incoherent noises, "Splendid! Now, let me take all of you on a journey through what love is."During their time with the butterfly, the four people were brought to an area that seemed to be where the butterfly and his friends lived and hung out with. Y/N was somewhat amazed by how happy the place was and all the positive things within there, but something was nagging at them that something was wrong when Manny stood off to the side and pulled himself away from anyone who tried dragging him to the others. It was obvious that he's been through something like this before or he also felt the unsettling energy too, since Manny was always the guy who was obviously to things and went with everything...except if he was tired, of course. Y/N still remembered when that lamp kept coming to life and pestering everything about how important sleep is and Manny wasn't going to put up with that. He ended up just shoving the lamp into the fridge since it was more noise-canceling and hard to get out of, which he knew from experience.
Eventually, Y/N's suspicions of something being wrong were proven right when the butterfly was starting to try to lure Robin and Red to a darker part of the place where four seats with straps were situated. This somewhat shocked Y/N, but seeing as how long they were there to see every fucked up thing that could exist there, it was reasonable that the butterfly was kidnapping them.
Y/N groaned as they grabbed a giant stick from the tree and dragged it behind them before slowly approaching the butterfly as he started to rant about some sort of cult, but before he could finish he was swiftly kicked out by the stick. This scared the others and they ended up running away from the treat."Sorry to ruin the fun, but I just want to go home," Y/N tossed the stick away as they removed the straps from Red while Manny removed the straps from Robin.
"It was boring anyways. Love? Such a silly thing," Robin replied as he hopped off the chair after the last strap was removed from his wrist from Manny before ruffling his feathers and walking ahead and passing by the tree to a completely different area before disappearing, Manny following behind.
Y/N stood there somewhat awkwardly with Red as they struggled to get the last strap off of his chest, it was like it was built to keep him in it. It annoyed them as they were now just tugging and pulling at the strap with as much force as they could, unintentionally sitting on Red's knee."Damn—stupid fuckin' strap!" Y/N mumbled to themself, to which Red comforted them with a small pat on the shoulder as he stared at Y/N's face scrunched up in aggravation.
Finally, the strap snapped and Y/N fell back onto the ground. Thankfully this world was made of clouds and cotton candy, so they didn't have an injured spine yet. They'd groan a bit before smiling in satisfaction and raising a thumb to Red, who grabbed that same hand to help pull Y/N up off the ground.
They'd stare at each other for more than a minute in silence, which was normal...but Red was never this quiet. He was always at least inputting his own opinions before going back to observing everyone else, he wasn't always just the observer."Y/N...?" Red mumbled quietly, almost too quiet.
"Yes?" Y/N replied, alongside them tilting their head to the side like a confused puppy. This seemed to get Red nervous before he quietly mumbled something to himself before one hand pulled his yarn back while the other gently held Y/N's he'd up by the chin before diving down and placing a gentle kiss on Y/N's lips before parting, his lips quivered as he waited in anticipation for some sort of reaction. As for Y/N, they stood there flabbergasted with a face that mocked Red's by how red it was, their eyes stared widely at Red's before their hands rushed up to his face and pulled him back down for another kiss.
Red flinched a bit but melted within it as they both couldn't help but smile within it, feeling their hearts beat rapidly but in synch with each other. It was almost like heaven, even if it was just a silly kiss. Yet, with this kiss, it finally proved to each other that they shared a similar feeling, and confessing it in this way was like the anxiety of being rejected was sliding off their chests as they could breathe again within their lips. Red didn't dare to progress the kiss as he was worried to slip up and hurt the one he...loved, as he learned.
It made sense as to what that one feeling was inside his chest that made him feel energetic when Y/N came near, or why it felt like he couldn't breathe when Y/N even mentioned leaving to go back home. The feelings were so strong and yet he never understood them, since he was always such a bland person who didn't express emotions much to actually know them himself.
They'd pull away after their moment of gentle kissing to get air, Y/N's hands still held Red's face as they couldn't help but stare at the smile he could no longer hide."You should show your face off a little more around me, maybe then we could do this more," Y/N casually teased as their finger traced down his cheek to his chin before removing their hands away so he could fully hide away his face in the yarn. Even when the yarn was in the way, his smile never flattered, but only grew as he could no longer contain how relieved and happy he felt, he just felt a little embarrassed to show off his grotesque smile.
"We should head back to the others, they—they might be wondering where we are..." Red breathlessly said as Y/N nodded before they took his hand in theirs.
"Then let's go!"Later that day, Red made cookies for Y/N...in secret. So that the others didn't try to take the special love cookies he made for Y/N, which just so happened to be their favorite kind! The best part was they were shaped like cartoon hearts.
Today, despite it not being February 14th (as they think), was the best Valentine's Day that Y/N and Red have ever had.
