As agreed, I stayed at Kie's. A few months before she had asked me to go to Midsummers with her so she wouldn't go alone. Her parents idea, actually. They even bought me a dress and heels at the time.

Before getting ready, I decided to walk around the neighborhood. I needed to know if JJ was alright. I needed to know if John B was alright. All of that was happening, and there were the Kooks, having a fancy event. It seemed like a laugh in the face of the Cut.

A while later, I decided to go back.

"Mary. Hi, come in." Mr. Carrera said opening the door for me. "We started to think you weren't gonna come back."

"No, no. I just needed some time to think of some things. But I'm here now." I said smiling at him.

"Good. Kiara is upstairs in her room." He told me.

"Thank you." I said making my way to her room.

As I was about to go in, Kie's mom was getting out.

"Oh, Mary, sweetheart. You're late. Where have you been? Doesn't matter, you have to be quick, alright?" She told me.

"Yes, of course. I'll be as fast as I can." I told her before walking in Kie's room.

"Dude, you're late! Where the hell were you?!" Kie asked me as I closed the door.

"I needed some fresh air. You know, digest everything that happened in the last 24 hours." I said as I started to take my makeup off with her makeup wipes.

"Yeah, I understand." She sat sitting me down on her chair. "You'll do the makeup while I do the hair."

"You are an angel!" I told her.

"I know." She said smiling at me.

About 40 minutes later, I was done. I was wearing a long red dress, that Kie's parents bought me a few months ago, along with a pair of shinning silver heels, a shinning silver purse to match. My hair was curled, and my make up consisted on a glitter eyeshadow, a black eyeliner, and a nude lipstick. (Photo at the beginning of the chapter)

"You are so pretty, I'm actually jealous." Kie said once I was done.

"Are you kidding? Look at you! You look like a princess!" I told her.

She truly did. Mainly with her flower tiara.

"I can't believe we're going to this thing while the Cut is the way it is." She sighed.

"Believe me, no one gets it better than me. Mainly when I'm gonna be the only one from there. I'm already expecting some side eyes." I told her.

"You're way better than them, don't worry." She smiled.

"Girls, we have to go!" Mrs. Carrera yelled from downstairs.

"Let's go face some Kooks?" I asked her.

"Let's go face some Kooks." She said not happily.

After we got there, we saw Pope on a corner working with his father.

"Excuse me, sir. Do we have to shuck these ourselves?" She asked in a fake British accent, making him hesitantly turn around. "'Cause it might mess up my costume."

"We wouldn't want that now, would we?" Pope asked smiling at us, but more at Kie.

We did our handshake before he spoke again.

"That accent was bad." He laughed.

"It was. I was gonna let it go." Kie said smiling.

"Oh, please. Like we're ever gonna let that die." I said smiling as well. "Have you ever seen this many Kooks in one place?" I asked as turned around to look at the people.
