Since the play, a lot has happened. Jo had experienced a great loss which affected her relationship with Amy. A result of the burnt pages of a manuscript lost to time and reduced to ash. Me and Meg tried our hardest to comfort her. Although her change in demeanor towards the youngest March sister caused a rift in their relationship. It was a very unfortunate result of anger and it made our sleepover that night very uncomfortable.

The next day wasn't any better, Laurie had invited Jo and I to go skating on the lake. Still furious with Amy, she stormed out of the house and didn't so much as spare her another glance. In the late winter, the ice was as thin as Jo's tolerance for her sister. Amy, not giving up, chased after us, without the warning of the stability of the ice. Plummeting into the freezing cold water, crying out for help.

Luckily we were able to get her out in time. She then lies bedridden, covered in blankets, in front of a roaring fire, hoping it would be enough to prevent hypothermia. Jo, feeling as though it was her fault, came to terms with her anger. Realizing losing a sister would be much more heartbreaking than losing her stories.

Now in the spring, the blossoms sprung open in vibrant colors, birds sung and the sunlight streamed down from the heavens. Excitement radiated off the eldest March sister and I stood off to the side dreading what was to come. "Hurry up, you two! Meg and Y/N's gonna be gone for a week" Amy yelled to Laurie and Jo. They looked like they were having fun chasing each other, whilst I'm all dolled up like a mannequin you'd see in an expensive dress store display.

"You take the other carriage, Laurie and spy on them. Make sure they don't fall in love" Jo whispered to Laurie.

"I will" he replied.

Meg was still radiating a very contagious energy, as she stood with Marmee under the tree. Smiling brightly as ever. "It was so nice of Annie to invite me to her debutante ball. Thank you for letting me go, Marmee" she said as she confessed her joy.

"Just be who you are" Marmee replied. As she reached into her pocket. "And wear this to the ball. It was mine when I was your age. I've never understood saving jewelry until marriage. You should have something that's just yours" she said as she handed it to Meg. "Pretty things should be enjoyed" she finally said as she hugged her daughter.

"Yes, pretty things should be enjoyed" Jo said as she got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. He looked dazed as he slipped it on his finger. I couldn't help but feel saddened, my mood just got worse.

Marmee came up to me and placed both hands on my shoulders. I turned to see her smile as she gave me a tight hug. "And that goes for you too, just be who you are. Because you are an amazing person Y/N" She let go of me and my expression finally matched my eyes, a dull, anxious look. She placed her hand under my chin and lifted it. "And remember, there are plenty of men in the world, but only one who can truly steal your heart" She said as she looked back at Laurie.

"I wish I could go to the debutante ball" Amy sighed, hugging the carriage door. Snapping me out of my thoughts as to how Marmee knew. I walked over to Meg and we linked arms walking towards the black carriage. She flashed me another of her award winning smiles and I tried to replicate it but it didn't look genuine, due to the anxiety flooding over me once more.

"Do you think this is a good idea, her going away like this?" Mr. Brooke said obviously referring to Meg. 'Laurie I'm winning the bet!'.

"Girls have to go into the world and make up their own minds about things" Marmee told the love-sickened man.

"Don't forget about us" Jo said as she wrapped her arms around me.

"We won't, Jo, it's only a week" Meg said as Jo hugged her.

I noticed someone attempting to get my attention, Mr. Laurence was waving at me to come over. As I greeted him he pulled me in and engulfed me in an embrace. Then something I wasn't expecting, he reached into his pocket and handed me a sapphire ring. "Mr. Laurence. It's incredible" I say as I slip it on my finger. Admiring the way it sparkled in the sunlight.

"That was the ring your father gave your mother after his first ball. Thought it would bring good luck" he said, smiling at the memory of his old friend telling him he'd met the one.

"Thank you" I hugged him once more. As Meg came over to thank him for allowing us to use the coach. "Thank you for the carriage, Mr. Laurence. I don't know how to repay you" she said.

"Nonsense, Nonsense. Although there is one thing. It occurred to me today that my daughter's piano suffers from want of use. Any of your girls like to run over and practice on it now and then?" He asked. Beth looked as though she'd been given the greatest of gifts. "Just to keep it in tune. If they don't care to come, why, then never mind"

"Oh, sir, they do care. Very, very much" Beth said as she stepped forward with stars in her eyes.

"You're the musical girl?"

"I love it dearly. And I'll come if you are quite sure nobody will hear me and be disturbed"

"Not a soul, my dear"

As we said our final goodbye's, Meg and I got into the carriage. Waving at the March's and the Laurence's, as Jo told us "Not to go and get married!". I locked eyes with Laurie and gave him a small wave, and that's all I expected him to do in return. His eyes looked as though he was having an internal struggle deciding what to do next. He let go of Jo, sprinting up to the moving coach. Holding onto the carriage door he then leaned in kissing my cheek. "Don't go falling in love and leaving me behind"

"How could I?" I said as he let go. I watched Laurie disappear into the distance. "How could I?" I whispered to myself, looking at my ring. 'It really is good luck'. I smiled as we rode off to have a night to remember. For better or worse.
