3~ WAY TO GO MUM!
"SpongeBob!!!", My brother screamed as he ran into the house followed by my parents and sister.
"You wish," I replied, as Alex stuck his tongue out at me and went up to his room.
"Hey mum, Hey dad," I said as I continued watching TV.
I heard Cinth sigh as she realized there was no sign of Caleb anymore. She turned to me and mouthed a 'thank you' as I nodded at her in response.
"Amethyst," my mum called as she walked into the kitchen.
"Yeah?" I replied
"Come help me with dinner.'' my mum stated as I followed her to the kitchen.
Everyone in my family knew Cinth couldn't cook to save her life so my mum never bothered her.
Sometimes I wonder if she knew how to cook but pretends to not know how to but then I remember when she volunteered to cook and made 'roast rice with black pasta and crunchy beef'. In other words, she burned everything so we had to order food.
After we were done preparing dinner, we ate and chatted. After dinner, We were all about to go to bed when my mum called Cinth and me downstairs for a chat.
"Well you guys think you pulled one over me, right?" my mum said sternly as we stared at her in confusion.
"You know the plant I got last week?" We shook our heads not knowing where this was going, "Well check this out" she said as she plugged it into her phone showing us footage of earlier today.
Busted.
Way to go mum. I never thought my mum could do something like this but she shocked me.
'Why the heck are you excited you are also in trouble for being an accomplice' ' my conscience reminded me. All the blood drained from my face at the realization.
Hyacinth and l stared at the screen in horror as Mum gave us a look of utter disappointment.
"I'm disgusted by this display with the boy we forbade you from seeing. I'm hurt, I can't believe you went as far as to disobey your parents for that hooligan." My mum yelled as she shook with pure rage.
"I don't understand why you guys don't want me to be happy, Caleb is not a bad guy mum you guys were just too quick to judge him." My sister said after a moment of silence as she tried to reason with my mum.
"Oh, Yes!, A decent young man would walk around in a stranger's house, after doing who-knows-what with their daughter, shirtless?" My mother asked as Cinth fell silent knowing it was no use arguing with her.
"Well he was only shirtless for some time and put on a shirt when he saw it made me uncomfortable" I decided to butt in.
"You! I will get to you later but just stay out of this." My mum shot at me as she turned to continue addressing Cinth.
"Mum, please don't punish Amy she had no say in this." Cinth pleaded with my mum.
"Amethyst, you can go but you are not off the hook." My mum said after some consideration.
Well, we may bicker a lot but my sister always had my back, something I respected.
They argued for about twenty minutes as I waited by the stairs to listen in.
I couldn't hear anything so I started to drift off, then Cinth came and sat next to me.
"Thanks for keeping my secret," Cinth said with all sincerity.
"Don't worry about it. We must be there for each other." Cinth smiled at my words as I knew she would have done the same for me.
"She is pissed and has decided to talk to Dad about the punishments tomorrow," Cinth added after a bit.
"Well, thanks for defending me, because of that if Mum and Dad ever accept him, I will be a lot nicer to Caleb," I said as she chuckled at my statement.
"Well, I will keep that in mind but just know you owe me more than that if they decide not to ground you."
"Deal," I said as I hugged her to comfort her.
She sighed as she relaxed in my arms needing the hug.
I always cherished moments like this because they seldom happen.
We parted ways, saying our goodnights and going to bed.
Today was very exhausting so as I climbed the bed, I immediately fell asleep.
~~~~~
The next morning my dad was the one
addressing us.He didn't say much but he was sincerely hurt. He was always the one to ask us to explain before he gave his judgment.
"Dad, I love Caleb and he is not a bad guy." Cinth pleaded with my dad.
"Well, I wouldn't take your word on this because you claim to love him. Let's hear what Amethyst has to say about this." My dad said as they all stared at me.
"Dad, Mum, I would be lying if I told you I'm a fan of Caleb..." I started but I was cut off instantly.
"See, well if..." I cut my mum off as I continued speaking.
"But, he is a nice guy. He always pays for our pizza even though Cinth doesn't want him to and he settles fights between us, and he treats Cinth like a princess. If you look past the smug, pierced, tattooed exterior you would see a guy who loves and respects your daughter." Once I was done I had three pair of eyes on me.
They all looked utterly shocked. Well, I was not one to say much so that explains the shocked looks.
"Well, the girl has spoken." My dad said to my mum.
"We can't take her word, What if Cinth bribed her to say that?"
"We both know if Cinth had bribed her she would have just said 'he is a good guy' or just nodded at the question. Plus, did you see Cinth's face when Amy started? She didn't expect her to say this."
My parents kept arguing silently as we awaited their verdict.
"We have decided to meet Caleb and judge him by what we see." My dad said as Cinth nodded happily at this.
"OK, I won't disappoint," Cinth said with a toothy grin.
"But, you are still grounded for going behind our backs. A month for Hyacinth and two weeks for Amethyst". We both nodded at this as they dismissed us.
"Yes!" My sister exclaimed as I sat on her bed with a confused look. We were currently in Cinth's room.
"Why are you excited we got grounded?" I asked as my sister stared at me like I said the dumbest thing ever.
"Well my naive little sister, mum, and dad just said they would try to accept Caleb, that's a good thing and it's all thanks to you." She said as I couldn't help but smile.
I felt very important. My sister and I shared a few words and till she got a call from Caleb I took that as my cue to leave.
