Maya woke up the next morning and decided she wanted to go for a hike. She didn't want to wake her wife, so she quietly slid out of bed to get ready. As she walked past KJ's room she paused. She could hear KJ rustling around in her bed. Maya walked backward down the hallway back to KJ's door. She knocked lightly on the door and opened it a crack. KJ was awake and turned towards Maya and gave her a soft smile.
"Hey kid. Everything okay? It's pretty early," Maya asked her daughter.
"Morning, mom. Yeah, I'm okay just not able to fall back asleep," KJ responded as she sat up in her bed.
Maya walked over and sat down next to her.
"I'm going to head out to go on a hike. You wanna come with?" Maya questioned. She wanted to take the opportunity to spend time with her daughter but also wanted to have a conversation with her about this new boy that came by during the party.
KJ thought about it for a second.
"Sure. It's been a while since we've gone on a hike. The fresh air will be nice," KJ told her mom excitedly.
Maya gave her daughter a smile and ruffled her hair.
"Perfect. Get dressed and ready and meet me downstairs and then we'll head out. Make sure you're quiet so you don't wake up your mama or your brother," Maya pointed at her daughter encouraging her to get out of bed to start her day.

Maya and KJ made it to their favorite hiking trail and began the climb to the top of the two-mile hike, four miles altogether. They were bantering back and forth the majority of the hike to the top. When they reached the top of the first two miles, they found a bench to sit down on. Maya pulled a couple of water bottles out of her bag and handed one to Karter. They both sat and Maya finally worked up the courage to ask her daughter about her new "friend".
"So, tell me about this new "friend" that your Mama told me showed up last night," Maya said to her daughter.
KJ groaned and let out a playful whine and said, "It's nothing, Mom."
Maya gave her daughter the look she always does when she knows KJ is lying to her.
"Well according to what Mama told me, it's definitely not nothing," Maya said softly.
KJ was blushing at this point and knew she had no choice but to talk to her mom about it.
"His name is Jordan and he's my boyfriend," KJ said quickly and quietly.
Maya's eyes became wide with shock, but she kept her cool. She didn't want to come off as overly protective and scare her daughter away from talking to her.
Maya asked KJ, "How long have you guys been together?"
"Officially since two days ago, but unofficially, for about 2 months," KJ replied to her mom softly.
Maya once again was shocked that KJ had kept it from her and Carina for that long.
"Oh, wow. So, for a little while, then? Well, is he nice? And is he respectful?" Maya questioned KJ seriously.
KJ finally let her guard down a little when she realized her mom was really trying.
"His name is Jordan and he's really great, Mom. He's so funny and he's kind and smart...," KJ hesitated a little. "And he's really cute," she said as she blushed immediately.
Maya giggled a little seeing how giddy KJ was as she talked about her boyfriend.
Maya put her arm around KJ and pulled her into a side hug as they sat on the bench.
"As long as he's respectful and cares about you, that's all I care about," Maya said as she still held her daughter. "But if he hurts you, I'll hurt him."
KJ laughed at her mom as she stood up off the bench.
"I'm serious, Karter!" Maya exclaimed as she joined KJ in laughter.
KJ walked up to her mom and gave her a big hug.
"Come on. Let's head back down and head home," KJ said as she moved out of the hug.
Maya playfully bumped her daughter as they headed down the trail.
"You know your mama is going to want to have a wayyyy different conversation about this than me," Maya chuckled.
KJ turned around towards her mom looking confused. "What do you mean?" she asked.
"Let's just say it's going to be a lot more uncomfortable than the conversation we just had," Maya said as she playfully pushed her daughter. "Come on. I'll race you to the bottom!" Maya exclaimed.
KJ and Maya jogged the rest of the way down the trail. They hopped in the car and made their way back home.

Maya and KJ got back to the house around 9 A.M. KJ ran upstairs so she could shower and get ready for her day. She was hoping her moms would let her go hang out with Jordan later.
Maya headed to her bedroom to see Carina still sleeping peacefully in bed. She walked over to the bed and leaned over pressing a kiss on her wife's forehead. Carina let out a soft grunt as she stretched and shook off the morning sleepiness.
"Buongiorno, bambina," Carina said as she rolled over in bed to watch Maya. "Where did you go this morning?"
Maya walked over to the dresser to grab clean clothes to put on after her shower.
"Karter and I went for a little hike this morning," Maya replied as she walked back over to her wife and sat down next to her. "It gave us a chance to talk a little."
Carina gave her wife an inquisitive look.
"About?" Carina questioned.
Maya playfully responded, "Well, his name is Jordan and according to her, he is very cute."
Carina gasped amusingly, "She talked to YOU about him before she talked to me!? Since when are you the one she talks to about boys?"
Maya giggled at her wife's comments.
"I was wondering the same thing," Maya paused, "I guess it may have helped that I didn't go all mama bear mode and I actually let her talk."
Carina gave Maya a playful smack on the thigh.
"Funny what happens when you actually listen to people!" Carina sassed back.
Maya stood up from the bed and walked towards the bathroom.
"Yeah, yeah! I told her the conversation she has with you is gonna be a lot more uncomfortable," Maya snickered.
"Bambina, sex is not something to be ashamed to talk about!" exclaimed Carina.
"Try telling that to your 16-year-old daughter!" Maya shouted from the bathroom where she had hopped in the shower.
