The imparter was still for a few seconds. Sophie prayed that it meant Oralie was gone.
She was so done with her birth mother.
Unfortunately, Oralie's pretty porcelain face was on the screen a second later.
"Sophie?" She asked. No one but Oralie knew how much Sophie hated her.
The councillor knew she deserved it. It was even more bitter for her, being an empath.
"No time to ask questions." Sophie said. "Lady Gisela took Keefe."
"I heard." Oralie nodded.
"Did you hear the rest as well?"
"Yes."
"We need your help. Do you have any gear that can block Mesmers?" Sophie asked.
"Why would you need those?" Oralie replied.
"Lady Gisela is a Mesmer. You said you heard everything."
"Well, clearly I haven't. I know that Biana was taken to a hideout under Foxfire. And Keefe gave in to his mum and Biana was freed." She said.
Sophie sighed. "You missed the beginning bit. When Lady Gisela threatened to take Fitz and Biana wanted to go instead of him? Because Gisela was mesmering Fitz to be a jerk?"
Oralie nodded grimly.
"Well? Do you have the gear?"
"I'm not sure. You may need to ask Councillor Bronte." Oralie said.
Sophie sighed. Councillor Bronte used to despise her, but he had lately begun to trust her more. They had a strong alliance now, but it didn't mean that he just stopped being grumpy.
"Um... bye, I guess." Oralie said suddenly.
"Thank you for the information. Bye..." Sophie ended the conversation awkwardly.
Great.
She was about to say Bronte's name when her eye was drawn to the bottle of ... Keefe.
She wanted him back.
Keefe?
She prayed her transmission would succeed. She had to try!
